Didn't see a thread for this, but I can't be the only one beyond stoked that it's all up on Netflix now.

There goes my weekend...

Super-excited, but my wife rightly suggest that we should make it last.  So we'll probably spread it out to only 1-2 episodes a week.

If it's as good as the initial reviews have it, I doubt I'll have that much patience. :lol

In my case, I'll get through it as fast as I'm able but that'll still probably be only an episode every day or two. :P

I'm very excited, love the Sandman graphic novels.

Incidentally, it got me thinking about other Neil Gaiman adaptations. American Gods started solid but went a bit weird. But Neil wasn't really involved in that. Stardust and Good Omens were top notch but very much on the lighter end of things. Coraline was again different (a kids book/film but definitely not light - actually super creepy).

(EDIT: Forgot about MirrorMask, that was decent if a bit budget.)

(EDIT 2: Also the adaptation of Neverwhere, which was also pretty budget. :lol Ah the good old days.)

American Gods started off soooooo good.... Was crushed that it fell off the rails the way it did. That scene with Anansi was 4 of the best minutes of television ever produced.

Am very intrigued by this.  Checking to see if jingle.son has interest in it.  If not, I'll just pound it out on my own.

I'm halfway through episode 5.

The Sandman has been my favorite comic since, well, since I read it, lo these many years ago.  I am so glad to see such quality and effort put into this version.

It's crazy.. 1-4 were so good, then in 5 the show takes a quantum leap to unbelievably outstanding, and keeps that momentum throughout. EP5 is such a unique piece of storytelling.

I have 1 or 2 left which I will knock out tonight. I had to stop myself last night so I could go to bed. Didn't want to stop.

I just want to point out what a treasure David Thewlis is. That man is just amazing in anything he does.

Right? Him sitting at the counter with a huge tub of ice cream watching the truth rip everyone apart was such an amazing piece of imagery, and he was so perfect in that space.

I just finished Ep 5, which seemed to be a perfect mid-season climax.  Seems like these first 5 episodes were just setup for the second half.  Also, every cast member has been fantastic.

OK, so this may be the best adaptation of a comic to a visual medium that there has ever been.

Yeah, that dichotomy of the first half of that episode to the second half is so amazing, I definitely need to do a re-qatch to really catch all they threw at us.

Also, have hankies ready for Ep6

Definitely should be in the discussion.

If you've not read the comics/graphic novels, then it's not the easiest to explain without spoiling something. :lol

In very brief summary of the start of the story, the character of Dream (aka Morpheus, aka the Sandman), one of seven "Endless", is captured by people who were trying to summon Death (another of the Endless). They imprison him for 100 years and after he eventually escapes in the present day, he finds that while he was gone his realm, the Dreaming, has fallen apart and it's affecting people in the real world.

Does that mark the split between Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll's House story lines?  I've only seen the first 2 episodes, so far, but IIRC those 2 volumes are supposed to be covered in season 1.

I wasn't familiar with the original material either, though I've read most of Gaiman's other work, so I was familiar with his style.

As jingle said, just click play, it's that good.

We need to give a nod to Amazon for green-lighting Good Omens. Since Neil ran that production he learned a lot about how this stuff is made. He said it gave him the knowledge as to when someone said something can't be done. It gave him a BS filter and knowledge of production techniques. Doing that show gave him the confidence to finally do this one.

Not quite, the first half of episode 6 is The Sound of Her Wings from Preludes. But yes both books are covered by season 1.
