Portnoy. He may have had more of an influence on me with me being a drummer, but Petrucci IS Dream Theater.

He wasn't allowed back is a unique way to look at it. I know a band isn't just a job, but in what job can you leave, have your replacement hired, and then months later expect to be brought back because you want to return?

Point made, but to play devil's advocate, I'm almost positive JP was quoted as saying that the door was open for his return.

If you say so, but I don't remember anything like that.  What I remember was an announcement to the effect that MP would be missed but the show must go on, and they almost immediately started making preparations for the future.
