10 Songs You're Listening to a Lot, Right Now
« on: June 21, 2022, 07:15:07 AM »
In a bid to find some more hidden DTF gems, what are your top 10 songs as of right now. No need to overthink it, this isn't your all time top 10, just 10 you're loving right now.

They could be old favourites that you've rekindled your love for, new songs, songs you've just discovered or something you can't get out of your head.

I'll make a playlist and listen through them all as it's bound to throw up something good.

I'll start

1. Rise, Naianasha (Cut the Cord) - Coheed and Cambria
2. The Liars Club - Coheed and Cambria
3. The Dripping Tap - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
4. Gigantium - Mastodon
5. Doom Boy - The Dirty Nil
6. Untouchable Parts 1&2 - Anathema
7. May 16 - Lagwagon
8. His Hands Matched His Tongue - The Dear Hunter
9. Farewell to My City - Frank Turner
10. Fishing for Fishies - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

Let's see in no order.  Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Our Lady Peace's Clumsy, Somewhere Out There, and Innocent.  Still got Pay Money to My Pain on heavier rotation with songs like Drive and Weight of My Pride.

Other than that, nothing stands out at the moment under my rotation aside from the random songs from my Post-Grunge radio playlist, my Alt. Metal radio playlist, and my JPop/JRock radio playlist.

Cheers guys. Some of these I know, most I don't. I'll give them all a good spin and see where you're all at  :tup

These kinds of questions are simply impossible for me.

That's why I said don't overthink it. Not your favourite 10 songs of all time, just 10 that you are vibing with at the moment.

I've just been to the gym and will probably post another 10 that I felt the urge to listen to.

Yeah, but I don't vibe with just 10 at any moment.  I listen to hundreds of songs every week.

I don't know.  Maybe I'll take a stab at it tomorrow.

I'm totally with you dude, I devour more music than I ever have at the moment. I also mainly listen to albums but I have playlists of my fave songs, that I mainly blast in the car. My list consists of some new songs I can't get enough of plus older faves I am just enjoying again at the moment.

Honestly don't over think, just songs that jump into your head as ones your enjoying at the moment, it doesn't even need to be 10 songs dude.

Is it just because some of you almost exclusively listen to full albums straight through?  Prog rock/metal-oriented people are unusually likely to do that, and that could make selecting individual tracks more difficult.  My listening in general is probably half that and half personally curated playlists that are constantly evolving.  Picking 10 all-time songs is a nightmare of a task, but 10 at the moment?  Easy, I just think of which 10 seem most salient right now from what I've most been playing.  A few weeks ago it would have been a different list (though probably with a few overlapping), and in a few weeks it'll be different again I'm sure.

The Cardigans - Lovefool
Sixpence None the Richer - Kiss Me

That was so late 90s me.  No Doubt's "Don't Speak" would have made it a perfect trio.

1. Kings Of Convenience - Summer On The West Hill
9. Jakub Zytecki - Sunflower

Good to see these getting some love.  Oddly enough, Zytecki is on two of the tracks on my list, "Trapeze" and "Paper Moon", and Disperse's "Kites" and "Enigma of Abode" are two tracks I considered for this week's top 10 because I've been playing them a lot again lately.

1. Spiritbox - Eternal Blue
8. Earthside - Crater

Considered these two for my own list, since they've also been on heavy rotation again.

4. Heart Healer - Awake
6. Abstract Void - Wind of Reminiscence
7. Chvrches - California

Excellent albums, good selections, though my song preference is a bit different ("Back To Reality" and "Joy Night", "Into the Unknown" and "Come Out of the Shadows", "How Not To Drown" and "Violent Delights", for example).

Did you check out the new Kings of Convenience album? It's really, really good. As for Zytecki, he is probably one of the more innovate and fresh guitar players out right now. He doesn't go full glitch guitar like Tim Henson, there is a lot more melody to his stuff.

Yeah, I enjoyed it, but it's a tier or two below their previous albums for now.  That may change over time, their albums tend to blossom later than some.

I like this. A good excuse to list and talk about some tunes  :)

Um, let's see...if I'm thinking about songs that I've enjoyed lately in my random listening...mixing newer and older in no order whatsoever:

Khirki - Deadpan
Khirki - Raging Bull
Khirki - Medea
Iris Divine - Thirteen
Ghost - Kaisarion
Iron Maiden - Starblind
Bat For Lashes - Moon and Moon
Bat For Lashes - Daniel
Mastodon - Teardrinker
Emma Ruth Rundle - Shadows of My Name

Khirki are a Greek band, they released an album last year (Κτηνωδία) - I keep going back to it. Super-cool mix of modern and classic rock, folk-y melodies and lots of energy (almost punkish urgency at times, especially the first two songs above). There are moodier, slow-burn songs too (like Medea). Highly recommended.

Kaisarion is still one of my favorite songs of the year so far. Insanely catchy and SO well constructed.

I've rediscovered Bat For Lashes' Two Suns after a while...Moon and Moon is such a haunting song, and Daniel is probably the best Cure single The Cure never wrote  ;) Speaking of haunting, the chorus in the Emma Ruth Rundle song is goosebumps all the way.

Cheers for all these guys. It's just nice to see what people are enjoying right now. I'm surprised by how many songs I don't know here, which is nice. I've chucked all the songs in a playlist and it's currently just shy of 7 hours.

I'm just going to post my 10 most listened to songs from the last 12 months from Last.fm:

Right?! A bit of Tori Amos here and there, but that piano theme and how it's reprised with subtle variations, her singing in the chorus...beautiful.

7. Foo Fighters - Rope

This is a great song (and so is the album it's on). Love Taylor's nod to Neil Peart's signature ride pattern during the chorus.

5. Black Map - Madness

Melodoria has grown on me a ton. Really good album. I don't think it'll top In Droves, but I've enjoyed it a bit more with every spin...
