I’m doing real bad at this one, huh?

Nah, you're doing better than expected for your first time with how many participants you let in / how much listening you have per round. :tup

5,5 rounds in 3 months might be the slowest roulette ever, though I’m sure someone will remember an even slower one
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

Nah, mine was a lot slower. I started in September 2020 and ended in March 2021, and there were only five rounds. I think the slow pace in the last two rounds was necessary for me to avoid getting completely burned out on it (I had three times as much music to listen to each round compared to Deadeye's roulette), but I think it's taught me some important things on how I want to run my next roulette which will help me avoid burnout and keep a good pace.

Deadeye, don't feel bad about the roulette going slowly. As far as I can see, all that's happening is that other more important things are getting in the way for you, and I think that's more than okay. As someone who's pretty invested into how this roulette will turn out, I say you should take your time; I don't mind waiting longer than expected. :)

Yeah, probably right there. Sorry man, I wasn’t working when I started and then it just kicked off.
Let's go with a P for Deadeye has premature alphabetejaculation.

Cheers for understanding. First Impressions will be out today. I’m on my way to the chiropractors atm and then I should be publishing in the next 5 hours or so.

I’m getting feelings of nostalgia and melancholy.

I love the airy feeling of this one.

A main course of shredding with a pretty decent story to boot!

I’m drawn in by the intrigue this intro offers and then the music really kicks in!

This reminds me of Transatlantic. I like it!

Such a beautiful voice

A cool story deserves a cool backing, this delivers!

Why am I not surprised that a band I’ve put off for so long is so me?

This one really captivated me

Is this about a real person?

Mental note: listen to more of this band

You took a risk here, but I think it might pay off.

What an interesting alternate reality!

Possibly the best vibes I’ve gotten in this whole roulette so far!

Feels like optimism. Also feels like something well outside of my usual taste.

Ok, this is just fun to listen to, though the music doesn’t seem to necessarily fit the tone of the story.

There’s a lot to like here and a lotta song to like it in

Solemn and sincere.

Maybe:

A cool story deserves a cool backing

Or

Reminds me of Transatlantic (kind of think this is Frost though).

That’s the general genre, and the keyboard sounds probably lend to it. The songwriting between the two bands is very different, but they share common vintage prog elements for sure.

Dammit Puppies, you guilted me into it. I'm doing it now. Let's start with yours.

Angra - Temple of Hate
Sent by Puppies_On_Acid

Starting with a riff that is clearly designed to take heads off, this song is instrumental-wise an absolute banger. And as the vocal finally takes precedence, I really love his voice, so I'm already drawn into the song. And by being drawn into this one, it makes me much more receptive to the story.  feel like it is a little lacking on the story front in this song alone, but in looking into the album this is from, I see this is simply a chapter of a much larger story. Some of the exact story details this song stands for in the context I can't fully grasp for myself, but hey. I'm keen to check out this whole album and I definitely feel this is a chapter of an ongoing story, so the bonus point is still yours. I came into this wanting to check out Angra for Kiko Loureiro, but I'm leaving it wanting to hear more from Angra as a whole. Top marks!

I'm doing this in no particular order, btw. Moving right along

UFO - Dreaming of Summer
Sent by Stadler

Start with the obvious. The riffing that opens this off is really great. That clean tone is amazing, and the nylon acoustic lead just before the vocals start is really cool. This is another case of the vocals being pretty perfect for the song. Even without the story, this is a really nice sounding song. The story here is one I feel I can relate to, albeit in locations I have never been to. That feeling of trying to hold it all together with no really prospects for a prosperous future, I've absolutely been there. And at the end, things are seeming bleak but the cycle keeps going. It's absolutely a great song. Thanks for sending this one, this is a really good song.

Symphony X - The Odyssey
Sent by wolfking

What a grand intro. We get an overture of a theme we're going to be hearing a lot of as this goes on. The opening lyrical section fairly well defines what our story will be about This is a journey home, but one that will be full of perils and dangers.
Taking a moment here to talk about the music. While the guitar playing is fairly great, I find some of the symphonic elements a little artificial sounding which can take me out of it a little. It's a bit of a shame as the melodies and playing is great. I think it may just be me, in all honesty. Vocals here are fairly strong, but what else can you expect from Russel Allen?

Movement III - The Eye - is an absolute banger in my ears. The grit of his vocals, the edginess of the riff. It all comes into play here and it's a real banger of a section. But, it's the instrumental movement, VI - Scylla and Charybdis - that I really sink my teeth into as far as the band's playing goes.

I love the way that the band float between the heavier sections and the more melodic sections with ease in this song as a whole. The story is certainly an intriguing one, definitely one of the strongest stories in this round for my money. As said in my first impression, this one has a whole lot to like about it and a whole lot of song to like it in. It's a great retelling of Homer's Odyssey at the very least.

I think this one is held back from being truly timeless by some of the choices in keyboard tones, a few of which really do nothing for me. But, really, if that's my complaint about this song, what does that tell you? This is excellent, and has a strong prospect of song of the round!

5 + 1
