I am actually revisiting some older Rush stuff that just never quite fully clicked with me.  It's all good stuff, but my sentiment hasn't really changed.

Funny how the eras of this band can fully divide the fan base.

Dude, had no idea what the ribbing was about but just went over to the General Discussion and saw your post. That’s really scary stuff! Glad you pulled through.

It's funny that. Even bad Rush is still good music! :metal Rush is just on a whole other level when it comes to songwriting and musicianship from the rest of the music industry. In my opinion of course.

Thanks mate.  Reading back my OP, I didn't really fully portray that well how fucking intense and scary it was the more that comes back to me.  Coming to terms now how fucked up it was and how close to death I actually came.  I'll get there though.

Rush helps haha.

I don't know how high it will go on my list, but I just heard High Water for the first time in probably 30 years and I was completely blown away.  I do not remember that song being THAT awesome!

I liked Totem a lot when TfE was first out.  In fact, it was my initial favorite from the album and I was majorly bummed when it wasn't played on the tour. Considering how much the band talked that one up in pre-release interviews, I thought for sure it would get played.  Ironically, at the time, I was like, "How could not play Totem, but play Resist?" And here we are 25 years later and Resist is my favorite song from the album and Totem is probably now middle of the pack.

Yes, same here! I was a bit confused, as I rarely check that section. As I said over there, so very happy you are ok. Can't quite imagine how scary that must have been.

Rush....5/8
Fly By Night....7/8
Caress Of Steel....0/5
2112....6/6
A Farewell To Kings....6/6
Hemispheres....4/4
Permanent Waves....6/6
Moving Pictures....7/7
Signals....1/8
Grace Under Pressure....0/8
Power Windows....3/8
Hold Your Fire....1/10
Presto....4/11
Roll The Bones....4/10
Counterparts....2/11
Test For Echo....3/11
Vapor Trails....0/13
Snakes & Arrows....6/13
Clockwork Angels....10/12

5 albums batted 1.000. 3 albums posted donuts. Song #1 was obvious, 2-9 were easy to identify, impossible to rank. 11-20 were easy to spot, hard to rank. 21-50 were solid picks but started to blend together in the 40s. 51+ got to be a challenge.

Here's my per album breakdown

Rush - 1/8
Fly By Night - 2/8
Caress of Steel - 3/5
2112 - 1/6
A Farewell to Kings - 4/6
Hemispheres - 3/4
Permanent Waves - 5/6
Moving Pictures - 7/7
Signals - 4/8
Grace Under Pressure - 6/8
Power Windows - 8/8
Hold Your Fire - 6/10
Presto - 3/11
Roll the Bones - 3/10
Counterparts - 6/11
Test for Echo - 2/11
Vapor Trails - 5/13
Snakes & Arrows - 0/13
Clockwork Angels - 6/12

Every album but S&A represented (that album hasn't aged very well for me, still some good songs on it though). Only MP and PoW got all songs on my list. As it should be. I was a little surprised Presto wasn't more well represented on my list, but several of those songs ended up just outside my top 75.

Agreed, they both made my list. I've always loved Prime Mover. And "hidden gem" describes Open Secrets well - There are a few songs on HYF that I rank higher, but Open Secrets is great and I rarely see it mentioned. Peart's drumming on it is sublime.

I used the Ranker this time; couple surprises, but I don't back away from any of it.   Yes, p/g has gained a few places.  I had the direct choice of "MP or Hemispheres", and while Hemispheres always seemed to win, I picked MP this time.  It could change in an hour or so.

Rank   Item
1   Moving Pictures
2   Hemispheres
3   A Farewell to Kings
4   Signals
5   Presto
6   Hold Your Fire
7   Fly By Night
8   Snakes and Arrows
9   Counterparts
10   Power Windows
11   Permanent Waves
12   2112
13   Clockwork Angels
14   Caress of Steel
15   Grace Under Pressure
16   Rush
17   Vapor Trails
18   Test For Echo
19   Roll the Bones
