A couple of heavier tunes included in these....

Steve Hackett  'Slot Machine' (recorded in '86) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8FhKi1-IH0

Freddie Mercury 'She Blows Hot & Cold' (demo from '85 appearing on 'The Solo Collection')   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbLXPusiDkg

The Foo Fighters   'Have A Cigar' from 'Mission Impossible:2'   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crtIW7eSu-M

Tony Iommi  and Ian Astbury  'Flame On' from 'Iommi'  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R13_UM_jwW0

Tony and Dave Grohl   'Goodbye Lament', also from 'Iommi' and 'Blair Witch Project 2'   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F11uZBy3L8
(I'd never seen this before yesterday. Brian and Tony certainly clicked throughout the years....)

Our resident Queen expert. :hefdaddy I am wondering if the theatrical version of "A Kind of Magic", the one appears during credits in Highlander; is available anywhere?

or to somewhat quote Orbert in his Chicago discography, I'm 'the official Queen geek of DTF and will not be out-geeked.'  ;)

Page 26 of the discography for the A KIND OF MAGIC 45  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=57201.875

The actual movie trailer was never made available on CD or vinyl.  It is only available on the 'Highlander' DVD (or if you still have a VHS). https://www.queenvault.com/AKindOfMagic/

There is always YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASw32qKppMw

(this is the correct music, just ignore the video)

If you want to transfer it to mp3, and don't know of this already, use this:

https://www.4kdownload.com/howto/howto-use-4k-youtube-to-mp3-as-desktop-youtube-player/1

I downloaded this program ten plus years ago.  Around 2020, most of the songs were not downloading.  So I paid the $29,
and about forty Jethro Tull Steven Wilson remixes did download (amongst other songs).

I'm sure there are other programs that will do the trick (which you may already know).

Pity it wasn't on the 2011 album bonus disc......

This is the version that appeared on the bonus disc  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzbWXD45GC8    It's close to the original trailer, with added sound effects for the first twenty seconds, obviously sounding better due to the remixing, and the fade outs last much longer.  It's a great version, just not the 'same'.

Just a head's up, it was released today (an album that I like a lot, although it has its flaws):

Thanks for the link  :tup  but I don't use Spotify....

That said, we did order the two disc collect's edition of 'The Miracle' last week   https://www.queenonlinestore.com/Queen/The-Miracle/

Should arrive around Christmas.

The 'staying power' of the band still runs strong.  Note the two Super Deluxe editions sold out!  We just couldn't pull the trigger on the $165 one.  It's certainly a nice package, but we have all the nonalbum B-sides, the booklet and vinyl would have been nice, and the same goes for the backing tracks, but it would have just collected dust on an already full (and often under utilized bookcase).  The 'new' songs are included on the two disc release (shame they didn't add the four main nonalbum tracks in this).

The real shame is that the demos that do exist.....  'I Want It All', 'A New Life Is Born', 'Scandal', 'Stealin', 'Hang On In There', 'My Baby Loves Me', and 'Hijack My Heart' were not polished up a bit and included.  When I first saw the announcement, I thought they were, but they turned out being the karaoke backing tracks.

Cool, DragonAttack, I'm sure you'll have a great Christmas gift!
I'm digging a lot hearing the Spotity version (3h8min of running time), I think it does a great job in presenting a lot of things I've never heard before, as a "less professional" Queen fan. I haven't been posting in this thread, but I'm reading it from time to time - this is really more like a book than a thread, really cool! Thanks for sharing a lot of interesting information!

Edit: Although not listed as "demo versions", I believe the demos of 'I Want It All' (#14 on the Spotify album), 'Scandal'(#19) and 'My Baby Loves Me'(#20) are there.

Thank you, and 'you are welcome'.  What became something to occupy some of my time while my wife was convalescing, ended up becoming a semi occupation <insert a smiley or a frown? ;)>  And just when I think it's winding down, I keep coming up with more stuff to post regarding this century's activities <once again, insert a smiley or a frown?>

Pins in a shattered left ankle, November '20
Pins in a broken right wrist, December '21 (at least she's left handed)
Dog with two torn ACLs in between
Me with strained ligaments in right ankle, February '22

and we're dealing with something currently.....

Thanks for your kind wishes.

Ahhh....and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the bit of history Roger made in 1999.

Freddie appeared on a UK Millenium stamp that year.  The only living people the Royal Mail is supposed to depict are members of the Royal Family.  Well, Roger is
visible in the background.  Kudos to Roger for his promotion ;)  (and yes, my wife has one of those stamps......)

2001

ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

March 19
Waldorf Astoria
New York City

with Freddie's Mom Jer Bulsara.  This photo was online worldwide that night.  One of my favorites from their entire career :tup :tup :tup

VIDEOS from their ceremony
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnkTh4I_Zis&t=150s  the line at 2:30

Dave Grohl:  "I once said in an interview, after playing in front of 250,000 people, that if you want to know how to connect to an audience that size, you either watch the Pope....or Freddie Mercury."   :tup

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e63sQ8Jz57s  part 2  acceptance speech

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y38SRlec0E8  We Will Rock You

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHiPF018Nho  Tie Your Mother Down (with the Foo Fighters)

This was the first time 'Queen' had performed on stage in the States since 1982 (the first for Brian since his BTTL tour in 1993. A shame it had to be in front of so many stuffed shirts.  I will admit to being disappointed that nothing was done with Aerosmith, who also was inducted that evening, especially since both were opening acts at my first Queen concert.  Would have been fun to see Joe Perry and Steven Tyler on something like 'Stone Cold Crazy'.

A KNIGHT's TALE

beginning of the movie
We Will Rock You   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr9roMoMT1Y
Robbie Williams + Queen  We Are The Champions (over the ending credits)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuj40b2MP7c

Robbie Williams:  his greatest hits was #1 in eleven countries in ’04.  His later two GHs also reached #1 in the UK.  Eleven of his twelve studio albums reached #1 in the UK, the other was #2, sales ranging from Gold to 10x Platinum.

His live LP reached #2.

I could find nothing as to how this charted.  There was a ton of backlash about this, and rightfully so for various reasons.  The extra guitar work at the end is damn good…..but they could have simply taken the demo and touched it up.

And just like the collaboration with Five, John was either totally in retirement, or would have nothing to do with this.

A recent interview regarding the possibility of Williams joining Brian and Roger
https://ultimateclassicrock.com/robbie-williams-queen/

May 2001

The film, which notionally took place during the Middle Ages, is notable for its deliberate use of classic rock songs in its soundtrack. The ten that were credited in the film are listed in order of appearance.

"We Will Rock You" – Queen
"Low Rider" – War
"Takin' Care of Business" – Bachman–Turner Overdrive
"Golden Years" – David Bowie
"Further on Up the Road" – Eric Clapton
"Get Ready" – Rare Earth
"I Want to Take You Higher" – Sly and the Family Stone
"The Boys Are Back in Town" – Thin Lizzy
"You Shook Me All Night Long" – AC/DC
"We Are the Champions" – Robbie Williams & Queen
In addition, the film's score makes use of the work of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, his composition Fratres (Brothers) being heard in the scene in which William is knighted by Prince Edward.

The first movie my wife and I watched together in a theater.  A great concept to use anachronistic pop culture references and a soundtrack with pop songs from the '70s.  RIP, Heath Ledger

Queen Breakthru  Cleveland, August 2001  https://queenbreakthru.com/about-queen-breakthru-official-north-american-queen-convention/

Throughout the years, there had been smallish Queen fan gatherings throughout the States, with twenty to forty attendees at each.  With help from Jacky Smith at the OIQFC (and yours truly as part of the organizing committee) 480 people attended the first ‘Breakthru’ North American Queen Convention.  My wife and I haven’t gone in years, but I believe there were around 120 at this years event.  I did receive this nice autographed certificate from being a member of the committee (and picture in the fan club magazine 😊   The certificate I received the following year did not have John’s signature.

For costume night, I dressed as Freddie at Wimbledon  :lol(a friend had a replica yellow jacket ) and Susan as one of the 'ladies' from ‘The Great Pretender’ video.  :eek

Also....Brian was the featured artist in 'Goldmine' magazine  https://brianmay.com/brian-news/brian-features/2001/08/queen-interview-with-brian-may-goldmine-10-aug-2001/

I worked with the editors on getting ads for the convention in this and other issues, paying for them out of my own pocket.  I even submitted a list of questions from myself and others.  None were used.

September
Brian and Roger filmed part of a 'VHS Storytellers' show earlier, which was to be completed some time in that month in NYC.  Tragic events dictated otherwise.

NOVEMBER 24
Ocean Club, London

On 10th anniversary of Freddie's death the fan club held a special party in the Ocean Club in London with SAS Band as the main act.
They were joined by Bruce Dickinson for I Want To Break Free and above all by Brian and Roger for six songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVwYm0R0FME

01. Radio Ga Ga (Roger on vocals, Brian on guitar)
02. Since You've Been Gone (Brian on guitar and vocals, Roger on drums)
03. Under Pressure (Roger and Treana Morris on vocals, Brian on guitar)
04. Strange Frontier (Roger on vocals, Brian on guitar)
05. Tie Your Mother Down (Brian on guitar and vocals, Roger on drums)
06. No-One But You (Roger on vocals, Brian on guitar and vocals)

finishing 2001, because I screwed up.

I might have been the first person in the States to play this on their stereo.  The Japanese version was brought along by the fan club president as a sneak preview for the convention committee, and since I was the only one to bring a boom box......

Indeed!  (though I'd never thought of Freddie in that, but 'we'll' take it  ;) )

From queenpedia   http://www.queenpedia.com/index.php?title=(I_Don%27t_Want_Nobody)_Teasin%27_Around_(With_Me)

"Actually, I've been playing some blues lately. I've done a couple of tracks and I usually end up singing and not screaming; it's in the range where I can put some passion into it. The funny thing is, I actually can scream. I just did this track for Scotty Moore on a Sun Records tribute. It starts off very quiet and then the guy screams because he's totally pissed off ... I did a version of that and I screamed it. The problem is that I can't do it all night."

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers* – Blue Moon Of Kentucky
The Howling Diablos* Featuring Kid Rock – Drinkin' Wine Spo - Dee - O - Dee

Why do these have a   * ?

Because I forgot to remove them.  ;)   Actually, here's the link for that release

https://www.discogs.com/master/203319-Various-Good-Rockin-Tonight-The-Legacy-Of-Sun-Records

I had read through it, did so again after your post, and there's no explanation for the asterisks. (?)

I have not, but will check this one out next week some time.

Thank you for the link  :tup

(gosh....it's so hard for me to watch Brian now, ...with totally gray/white hair (like me).  He's not supposed to age ;))

Trivial as to that 2001 convention:  we put the word out, and I went about ordering tickets for the Cleveland Indians baseball game that Sunday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners (the year the M's won 116 games).  The convention ended at noon, the game was to start at 1pm, and it would be a chance for many of the European guests to attend 'America's past time' in person.  Thirty people signed up, with some planning to at least catch 3-6 innings before their flights home. I bought the tickets upfront.  The future Mrs. DA and I would be leaving the next morning.

Alas....if I recall correctly, that was the first year of 'flex scheduling', and....you guessed it, the game was moved to Sunday night >:( :censored   What a gut punch that email was to read less than two weeks before the game, and then have to pass along that message to the committee.  Most of those that could not attend still paid me, and seven of us managed to see history made that night (though we left when it was 12-0, but watching the ending on TV).

https://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/august-5-2001-cleveland-overcomes-12-run-deficit-to-beat-mariners/

will move on to 2002 soon, with a brief recap of 'QUEEN' releases throughout the century, and then save some of the rest for a later rainy day.

We ended up selling the unused tickets on eBay for 3-4x face value.

An incredibly busy year, starting off with

The WINTER OLYMPICS

Brian collaborates once again with Michael Kamen, this time on "Light the Fire Within"   the official theme of the 2002 Winter Olympics   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5WDVC2IT30

The ceremony   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui3vlvpG6Ec&t=4s

I remember running this through the home stereo system to record onto cassette that evening, and cursing every single time someone needlessly talked over it :D >:(

Throughout all these years, I have found nothing where this was officially released, and found that nice, neat, clean version on youtube just a few months ago. :tup

QUEEN's DAY

Brian collaborations:
with Lynn Carey Saylor:  "If We Believe"   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_hdI3wd4y8  and  'We Belong'   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-QdaJI28x8    from the LP  'You Like It Clean'

with Claire Sweeney:   "Too Much Love Will Kill You"   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4obAtLHMy8

and, yet again, The Foo Fighters: "Tired of You"    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2mnoH1Fypo   from the Lp 'One By One'

Dave Grohl: "This is a really sparse one guitar and one vocal song - but then in the chorus Brian May overdubbed these 4-part guitar harmony swells - it's f--king insane. He's the only guest appearance on the record but you wouldn't even have to put his f--king name on the album because someone would hear that song and be like 'oh my god - that sounds like Queen.' It sounds like a string section, but he did it with a guitar and it's f--king amazing."

Well, it was nice, but I wouldn’t have known Brian appeared on this unless I had been told.

The Queen’s Jubiliee
Buckingham Palace
London, England, June 3
Attendance: 12,000 (with an additional one million people at The Mall to watch and listen on giant screens, and another 200 million watching the televised event around the world)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Jubilee_of_Elizabeth_II

On June 3rd, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh returned to London and at 1:00 pm launched the nationwide BBC Music Live Festival, in which more than 200 towns and cities across the United Kingdom publicly played the Beatles song "All You Need Is Love".

During the day, street parties were held around the country, and that evening, the Queen, the Duke, and other members of the immediate Royal Family, made themselves present at another concert on the grounds of Buckingham Palace called 'Party at the Palace'.

Brian kicked off the  event by playing his arrangement of "God Save the Queen" from the roof of the palace, while Paul McCartney concluded the concert.

The only audio or video footage I have found.  I did sneak a mini cassette recorder inside, and some of the performance was somewhat clear...but it was the
LOUDEST show/concert I've ever witnessed!  And....the 6'5" tall jerk wad constantly jumping and raising his arms was right in front of us.  We moved away for a while, but he was also the d*ck who stomped on my hand so hard when I had one of Carmine Appice's drumsticks in my hand, that I let go, and he grabbed it :censored >:(

(it felt so good to tell him off at the Vegas WWRY premiere a few years later....)

The musical began its run earlier in the year   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Will_Rock_You_(musical)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB9vPRuTlGI&list=PLZROkT1-_ZH5Rd8n8ogdhXCYNoARHzSAf   the soundtrack

1   Innuendo
2   Radio Ga Ga
3   I Want to Break Free
4   Somebody to Love
5   Killer Queen
6   Play the Game
7   Under Pressure
8   A Kind of Magic
9   I Want It All
10   Headlong
11   No-One but You (Only the Good Die Young)
12   Ogre Battle (Instrumental)
13   One Vision
14   Who Wants to Live Forever
15   Flash
16   Seven Seas of Rhye
17   Don't Stop Me Now
18   Another One Bites the Dust

22   We Are the Champions
23   We Will Rock You [Fast]
24   Bohemian Rhapsody

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew9KR1zZXzk  the play

I enjoyed ‘Innuendo’ but that was about it.  As to the play, NOBY and BoRhap were of course highlights.  Brian and Roger would occasionally appear (and perform 'We Will Rock You' / 'We Are The Champions' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody') in London, and throughout the world, for debut nights and other special occasions.

Spike Edney and Neil Murray performed on this recording.

As to the original cast, Kerry Ellis (Meat) would collaborate with Brian on a few albums down the road, and my wife and I would get to meet her and Tony Vincent at the Vegas premiere a few years later.

Did you manage to attend any others?  Since the initial convention, we've only been to  '02, '03 (Dallas), '06, and '09 (Detroit)

Fun experience (although my wife didn't appreciate the two speeding tickets I got driving from NJ to Cleveland)

Well, that suxx   Oh, how I hated  driving in Ohio     I-80/90 was great to drive whether it was from Michigan to Maryland (or Florida)... nice and flat, perfect for driving 70-80 MPH....or after the hilly and often no shoulder roads of Pennsylvania.  But  those 60 or 65 MPH speed zones >:(   I had heard horror stories of how there was little to no tolerance for speeding, especially for those with Michigan plates (influenced by the football rivalry perhaps ;)), so I made sure that if they saw my out of state plates, I wouldn't be doing anything over 62 MPH.

And...my final story:  we no doubt bumped into you some time that weekend, perhaps at the Saturday swap meet.  We sold off any mutual items (vinyl, CDs, The Solo Collection, box sets, posters, etc) and walked away with $2100 (and a much emptier car for the ride home :) :tup)

Re: We will rock you - The musical

I saw this some months ago with my wife when they had a short run in Cologne (again).

The story is as stupid as it gets and is clearly just a vehicle to present some Queen songs. We had a cast with really good singers (but no Brian or Roger  :D) and I enjoyed it for what it was.

Highlight was Bohemian Rhapsody as the encore with the operatic part performed live by all the singers.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

'New' QUEEN songs of this century

From the many compilations during this century, there was Queen Forever, released in 2014.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Forever

Released:  November 14, 2014

Charts:  UK #5, USA #38
South Korea #2, Poland #2, Netherlands #3, Israel #4, Switzerland #4, US Hard Rock #4, Italy #5, Belgium #6, Scotland #6, Germany #7, Austria #8, Czechoslavakia #8, Spain #8, Canada, #11, France #12, Portugal #12, Denmark #15, Japan #16, Ireland #18, New Zealand #18, Sweden #28, Australia #35,
Finland #36

Certifications:  Gold in UK, Germany, Italy, Poland

It offered two ‘new’ songs from the ‘The Works’ sessions
 ( page 24  of this discography https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=57201.msg2905229#msg2905229 )

Let Me In Your Heart Again  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWzeNnq1-rA

Love Kills  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTPdU_07YZY

These two absolutely blew me away when released.  And still do.  Great listens after collecting dust for thirty years!  Would have made great additions to 'The Works' back in the day.

There’s also an extended version of ‘Let Me In’ that was ruined by William Orbit.  It’s available on youtube.

And then, there’s this:
From the ‘Hot Space’ sessions, which then became a duet with Michael Jackson
There Must Be More To Life Than This  (Wm Orbit  mix), in which the Jackson estate did not give full control to Brian and Roger   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FrrzXH0exU

All of their discography (minus ‘Live Killers’) was remastered and reissued in 2011, along with bonus discs for each.  And then there was the ‘News Of The World’ 40th Anniversary release, which included a bonus disc of demos.  Nice.

And now.... we have ‘The Miracle’, rereleased this year.  Includes three absolutely superb nonalbum B-sides (Hang On In There, Stealin’, and My Life Has Been Saved) and a fun one (Hijack My Heart).  This reissue also includes demos AND demos touched up and polished, some of which I had never knew existed until this year.  I’m waiting for Christmas to open it (if it arrives by then).

With that…..we’ve covered all officially released (and many unofficially released) ‘QUEEN’ songs.

Will touch base on more of Roger’s and Brian’s releases, with summaries of their work with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert as well, albeit briefly, some time later next week.

'...and there you have it....' ;)
