Hey folks, it's been a little while since I've done this, and considering the state of the world right now, let's have some light fun! This time I'll try my best to keep things simple and properly explain my tastes since both are a constant source of pain for you, and myself as well

Useful linksTastesI'll try to explain what genres work for me, which don't, and why.
DislikesPower Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Grindcore, and most extreme forms of metal don't do it for me at all with a handful of exceptions. I just can't connect with any of these genres on an emotional level: the former is too cheesy, and the rest express angst or intense feelings in a way I don't like or are pretty repetitive. Most Prog Metal I just find uninteresting outside of some artists I'm fond of mostly for nostalgic reasons. I'm also not into Dad Rock although there are some fine exceptions, so be very careful with this
In general, anything that can be easily labeled as generic is a turn off for me, across all genres. Music that's too monotonous outside the electronic or ambient realms I don't dig that much. I also don't vibe that well with complex music that has no clear or simple motifs, like some jazz.
LikesThese days my tastes are all over the place but I'm really enjoying Electronic Music, Trip Hop, Synthpop, Industrial, Art Pop, Drone / Dark Ambient, Alternative Metal, even some Gothic, Drone, Doom Metal, and experimental stuff in general. I've been getting into Hip Hop and some Jazz lately. Metalcore and Hardcore Punk are stuff I want to get into more, just beware it doesn't get too chaotic like TDEP most of the time. Post-Rock I love some although I'm quite picky as most of it I find a bland copy of Explosions In The Sky, which I'm not very fond of.
I love creative, original music with a lot of personality, whether it's a simple pop song, or a crazy experimental noise piece. I've found myself digging (
and also writing) some of the later, but I prefer it when it's balanced with memorable melodic lines. Many of my favorite songs/bands ever walk this fine line between being innovative/experimental/weird and highly emotional/catchy/melodic, like Nine Inch Nails, Ulver, David Bowie's Blackstar, etc. But I also love songs that are very strong on only side, with Anathema and Godspeed You Black Emperor! being masters of their craft on very different ways.

Banned listIt'd be way too long, I've got more than 1.4k records listed on my Rateyourmusic profile, so just look there to see what's banned (any released I've rated, and any artist with a release I've rated 4 stars or higher are a no-no) and what I've been listening to lately. Anything from the wishlist is fair game. If you're unsure if a certain song / artists is allowed (e.g. haven't rated it on RYM or was sent in a previous roulette), send me a PM with all the submissions you'd be interested in using and I'll tell you if they're safe to send.
