^^ Pretty cool that you got a suite seat and dinner for $60.00.  It shows that maybe not all of the seats with all of the perks has not been jacked to the limit in the secondary market in these times.  I don't know how I found a GA Pit ticket for Shinedown in a small theater (well, relatively small for them since they normally would play amphitheaters in the summer) for $51.00, but luck finds its way and I ended up on the rail.

As for Ghost/Volbeat, that's one that I'm keeping an eye out on Stubhub and elsewhere for their show in Anaheim.  Nothing biting yet, but we'll see in a few weeks time.

I believe it's just due to low turn out for that concert.  Demand was low, supply was high so prices got super low right before the show started.  I was tracking the ticket I bought (or tickets in those sections) and they were listed for $150 a week before the show and just slowly went all the way down to $45 right before stubhub would stop selling them.  I'm going to be tracking this for my next concert which is Journey and Toto at the same arena.  That concert also isn't seling the greatest, but the base price for tickets is a bit higher so not sure I'll get the same low price, but I may be able to get good value if I stay patient and flexible.

The Ole cup is starting to runneth over...

1/16- Tool, Chase Center
2/6-   Dream Theater, Fox Theater
3/13- Allegaeon, DNA Lounge
3/19- Between the Buried and Me, UC Theater
4/10- Riverside, Great American Music Hall
4/24- Transatlantic, UC Theater
4/29- Amorphis, UC Theater
5/29- Haken, Regency Ballroom
9/9- Aristocrats, Great American Music Hall
9/11- Nine Inch Nails, Greek Theater in Berkeley

Funny thing about that last show...my dorm in my freshman year at Berkeley was literally next door to the Greek, close enough to where we used to be able to see shows from certain rooms. We used to sneak in there and do acid/mushrooms all the time when it was empty. Even used to do my homework there. The only thing I never did was actually pay to see a show there.

Tool - 2/26
Dream Theater - 3/5
Leprous - 3/9
Coheed and Cambria - 3/18

A few in April and May, not sure if I'll make all of them but will try.

Hmmm.  Should I go and see Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators at Inglewood today?  Tickets in the 100 sections has dipped below $35.00.  I just hate driving to Inglewood so much.  It's worst than driving to LA Live in Downtown LA.  I shall pass.  If it was in Microsoft Theater in Downtown LA rather than Youtube Theater in Inglewood, I would think differently.  I would have worn the Myles Kennedy Ides of March t-shirt for this one, for support and all, rather than the usual Alter Bridge t-shirt I wear to every rock concert.

Hopefully, by 2024, that OCVibe thing (which is the Ducks' owners' answer to LA Live) that's been in planning for a while that's going to be near the Honda Center in Anaheim where it would include a 5,000 people capacity theater would help get more shows at that size in Anaheim so that I don't have to drive to either Inglewood or Downtown LA as much to see bands like Slash or DT.  The OCVibe concept could be a cool thing for the city if all goes well.  Not much happens around the Honda Center anyway.  That's a pretty dead area when events aren't happening.

Awww, man.  I would be in on this bill if it comes to the West Coast.  Instead, it's going into what looks like the B market areas.  Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Starset, and former Flyleaf vocalist Lacey Sturm.

This new lineup is killer.  I'd like to see them myself.  Plus Journey's new lineup is interesting as well.

I think of the 3 bands I mentioned performing this coming weekend, Toto is who I want to see the most.  Haven't really followed their current line up too much, but I'm sure they'll be good.

Here we go.  Another Coheed and Cambria tour for the summer.  Dance Gavin Dance and Mothica will be openers.  LA show is at the Shrine LA Outdoors.  I presume that's outside of the Shrine Auditorium nearby USC.  Don't know how that is going to play out on a Friday, but if I can nab a ticket on the cheap, sure.  Either that or I drive 90 min. south to San Diego on a Saturday.

And it seems like it's going to be a completely different tour, not just a second leg to the current tour so I am down  :metal They're playing in Queens on a Saturday, should be fun.

So maybe this is only fascinating to me, but...

Kiss was supposed to play the Hartford Amphitheater (I forget what they're calling it now; I always call it "The Meadows") in August, but it was cancelled due to a hurricane.  Rescheduled date:  May 14th, a Saturday here in Hartford.

Funny thing, though:  about a month ago, Ace Frehley put a show on sale at Toad's Place in New Haven. Seated show, so there will only be about 400 to 500 tickets, but ALSO on May 14th.   I have tickets to the Ace show.  And while they are not close - Hartford is roughly an hour from New Haven - it's IMPOSSIBLE to me that they don't know this.  Ace's current touring band is the same band Gene used on his solo tour from a couple years ago; they now "share" that band (which makes sense from a salary perspective).   Toad's shows have a tendency to start late - I've seen acts go on at 10:00 or later, I think the latest was Night Ranger who went on about midnight, so it's not ENTIRELY impossible that something might happen...

I actually met Kiss for the first time - the Lick It Up lineup - at a record store called Cutler's right around the corner from Toad's back in '83.  I won't hold my breath, but if I let my imagination wander, having Gene (or Paul, but it's more likely to be Gene) do a couple tunes - Ace historically plays Deuce, a Gene song, and Cold Gin, a song Gene sings in Kiss, in his solo set - in a 500 seat club...

You going to do the whole festival then? Saw the band list announcement today.  There's definitely some bands I would check out, but like all the US rock festivals, they always seem to have the same bands.

I'll probably just do Friday...while there are some interesting bands, most don't really pull me in. The biggest draw asides from Nemophila would be Jinjer on the same night, plus I'd get Meshugah, Lamb of God, Gwar, and Nita Strauss to boot. (seen Priest numerous times already, might catch Kiss). On the other nights the only thing that might draw me out would be Band-Maid on Sunday (another big Japanese metal group)...but I'd drop the whole amount just to see Nemophila, I seriously thought I'd never get the chance with how little draw there is for that genre in the states, I guess Babymetal broke the seal for other bands to play.

The Friday line up is pretty solid.  If you like Jinjer, you may want to check out Spiritbox.  I've only just started listening to them and really enjoy their debut album that came out in 2021.  Also Clutch is solid American rock n roll

The Saturday and Sunday should be up in my alley.  The problem is that I already seen most of the bands I want to see within the last three years.  I guess it would be fine to knock out My Chemical Romance and Bring me the Horizon off the list of bands I have yet to see, but I don't know if I want to go up north for it.  MCR headlining shows are pretty expensive when they are going to do a four-show run at the Forum later this year though.

Edit: Oh snaps, I didn't know JRock/JPop band Band-Maid is on this Aftershock bill.  I've been meaning to listen to more of their stuff.

Yeah, both them and Nemophila are on the JPU foreign distribution label, I think they are trying to make some headway. They're solid for sure. Good to see the genre getting some festival love.

Edit- Tix purchased...here's hoping nothing changes in 7 months....

Ok, I have made a rare misfire in scheduling a concert.  It turned out that I need to do something else that takes priority this Wednesday evening.  I got two tickets for Dirty Honey and Mammoth WVH at the Wiltern Theater in LA this Wednesday.  Does anyone want these?  I rather not have these go to waste.  GA and free of charge.  PM me for transfer info if interested.

Damn, FivePoint Amphitheater is not on it.  Closest venue in Southern California is the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista (basically near San Diego).  That's a no go for me then.  Will just have to play the waiting game and hope to score cheap and center tickets in the bleachers for some shows.

Last weekend was classic rock weekend so here are some reviews...

Friday night was Kansas at the Count Basie Theatre (same place where DT plays one week from today).  I walked up to the box office and scooped up a $32 total ticket (cheapest on livenation was 65 after fees) and then since the place was only half full, I sat in a $90 ticket center of the upper section.  Great view and great sound with no one really close to me.  They came on at 8:00 and play until 10:15ish so pretty solid set list with no breaks.  They started with 5 acoustic songs of which I knew exactly 0 of but it was really good.  Near the end of the acoustic set they had a nice build up to bring out the drummer and then went on to an 8 song "... and beyond" type of set before doing the entire Point of Know Return album.  I must say, this band was pretty damn legit.  Fairly complicated music pulled off well by some pretty old dudes.  Very impressed with the band.  The singer sounded great too.  They ended the night with Carry On as expected.  Considering the cost and convenience (venue is fairly close) I don't know a better way to spend a Friday night.

Kansas LIVE @ Count Basie Theatre Red Bank NJ 2/25/2022

Sunday was Journey and Toto at Prudential Center (arena where the NJ Devils play).  Got in just in time for Toto to start.  Scooped up a front row of the all inclusive section (which was packed this time unlike for Ghost a few weeks ago).  Great view and sound as well at this show.  Toto was SO good.  My gf really enjoyed them too.  The current band isn't too different than what toured in 2019, but noticeablly different without the older guys on keys and percussion.  A much younger version of the band it seemed from my distant view.  The did 10 songs of which 4 were different than when I last saw them so I was pleased with some rotation and those 4 songs were some of the best in the set.  So funny to see the crowd fairly quiet and sitting until Rosanna and Africa, then it became a sea of phones in the arena.

Journey was much better than I expected.  I've seen them twice in 2018 and thought they were good, but nothing special. Now for their own headline show, I think they pulled off a better set.  Arnel sounded slightly off, but Neal was ON all night.  Lots of awesome solo spots for him throughout the set.  No Randy Jackson touring was kind of a bummer, was looking forward to seeing the American Idol.  They played Don't Stop Believin very early in the set, which I thought was very odd.  Certainly got a pop from the crowd, but I still think that's an ultimate closer song.  It was also Neal Schon's birthday so after the set, the band came out and Arnel sung happy birthday to him.  Love moments like that!

Journey & Toto LIVE @ Prudential Center Newark NJ 2/27/2022

hmmm, I bought this in 2020 (got a refund as no concert happened but actually got the physical pass in the mail which makes for a cool piece of non concert memorabilia).  Considering they didn't even raise the price, I may take this up again...

Ace Frehley just got postponed for a month; so much for Paul and Gene speeding down to New Haven from Hartford to join him on stage.

'acourse, now maybe I can go to Hartford to see Kiss instead!
