This is easily the worst band in this roulette.

I relistened to one of the songs after I sent it and thought, “yeah, this is kind of lame.” Singer (there may be more than one) kind of reminds me of Ozzy Osborne at times. Also a little Pantera-ish vocally at times maybe? Or like Rob Zombie. Gruff guy metal voice.

I do really like the drumming though.

Brann Dailor is one of the most underrated drummers out there, and not just in metal. The guy can play anything and he has.

And I always feel, that as good as he is, he's seriously overplaying. Less would be more, imo.

I think he has been better about overplaying in the last 4 albums or so. This song (banned in this round) has some of my favorite drumming from him.

I feel like the guitarist is copying Michael Schenker, but playing it extra sloppy so the teacher doesn't think he's cheating.

The drumming is good. The vocals absolutely blow.

Holy fucking shit!  I'm not sure if we can be friends any more.

While I'm obviously joking, I'm as shocked as you are to my thoughts on the new DT.  Maybe Mastodon being last you're getting a little tired and burnt out?  Or I'm clutching, that's probably more like it.  Saying that, I find that difficult to digest when Haken was included and Neal Morse to a lesser degree, but you've always been upfront about these guys so I shouldn't be too surprised I guess. 

I'm even more intrigued now to see the playlist now.

I remember picking up Leviathan from the cd store on a whim based on some small samples and the hype behind the album at the time.  It was like nothing I'd ever heard before.  Everything about it blew me away.  I was mad for guitar solos at that time but I've never felt once that the album needed them.  I guess I just have a real connection with these guys.  Nostalgia obviously plays a part when discovering and checking bands others love.

I have never been able to get into Leviathan aside from Blood And Thunder and Hearts Alive. The songwriting on the rest just isn’t there for me.

Of the bands in this roulette, I'm already a fan of Opeth, PT/SW, C&C and SB/NM, owning 95% of these bands' collective studio discography.

Of the other four, I only own 1 or 2 albums of each and wouldn't consider myself a fan (least of all BTBAM), but after this roulette, I'd say Mastodon is the only one I'd be willing to take a deeper dive on. Still not completely convinced though.

With Mastodon, I gravitate more towards their recent releases (Mainly Crack the Skye and onward). But those first 3 albums are just special, in their own wacky way.

First song I heard from them was Sleeping Giant around 2007, and that song is still one of my favorites.

Crack The Skye is really good, and if it had better production I would call it great. The Hunter is good. Blood Mountain and Once More Round The Sun I've tried but they did nothing for me.

So I'm curious what you guys sent and think are songs worthy to hear. I plan on listening to them and see if they convince me to give Mastodon another chance.
