Me too! In my opinion, you can't really go wrong with anything off the first 4 albums.

First 3 are gold.  Personally I wouldn't have sent anything from CTS anyway if it wasn't banned.

My fear is the vocals. TAC already criticized the vocals on Hushed and Grim (which I think are their best) as not being very good. Seeing as the vocals on the early albums are rather harsh since Troy was still finding his way, Brent with the gargling vocals and no vocals at all from Brann, that just screamed no to me.

I would have sent the title track from Crack The Skye and something else.

Remission is indeed amazing but I didn't send anything from it.  Tim has had a hard enough time with the vocals so not sure how Remission style would sit.  Could be the total opposite though since they are more brutal then their later stuff.

So, just a few first impressions after listening to about 12-15 tracks.

This is easily the worst band in this roulette.


I put them last on purpose to go out with a bang. That ain't fucking happening. Maybe I'll have an epiphany.


I feel like the guitarist is copying Michael Schenker, but playing it extra sloppy so the teacher doesn't think he's cheating.

The drumming is good. The vocals absolutely blow.

i don't know enough about neal morse to confirm this but yeah mastodon are by far my least favorite of the acts here i do know

Mastodon’s one of those bands that is consistently good / decent for me, but none of their songs or albums have quite passed over the threshold to “amazing”. I really wish they explored their proggier side more as CTS and the Cold Dark Place EP are easily my favorite releases by them.

I probably would have been better off something from that EP… whatever, not like I have a >0% chance of winning.
