I assume you are referring to the part that begins at about 9:58. That section is tight!

I like Burden, but the untuned guitar part at the end is a little strange, and the ending overall goes on too long. It's the one part of Watershed that kind of breaks the momentum for me.

Yes, definitely. The breakdown at the end is amazing (if you like that kind of thing) but the rest of the very long song isn't that interesting.

The Grand Conjuration is definitely up there with their best. That moment halway through the song where Mikael goes AAAAAAH and then THEEEE GRAAAAND CONJUUUURAAAATION and the main riff kicks in again about halfway through the song is amazing. That song is (like some of their others) a journey.

I can't agree. I find the whole 10 minutes amazing personally and it flows by and next thing you know, you're at the outro.

Agreed. Ghost Reveries is awesome, but to me The Grand Conjuration is the one kinda average spot on it. The other seven songs all rule.

the grand conjuration is my least favorite metal track on ghost reveries and probably my second least favorite behind atonement but that's like a 9/10 on a 9.5/10 5-star top-ten-of-all-time album, so

This is accurate. I'd say the opening trifecta of Ghost of Perdition, The Baying of the Hounds, and Beneath the Mire is one of the best openings to a metal album of all time.

I was years away from dealing with harsh vocals, but I was still able to get through Ghost Reveries because it was so good. I remember downloading Watershed when it came out after that, and thinking I'll just stick with Ghost Reveries..what I know.

Ghost Reveries is probably the best way for a newcomer to get into Opeth but it hasn't aged well for me. I'm not sure if it'd even be in my top five Opeth albums at this point. I dunno, something about the sound of that album just feels very... flat. And the pacing is pretty bad imo; after the great start that is the first three songs the album just gradually gets less and less engaging.

I know the fanbase is pretty divided on Watershed but I think that album improved upon Ghost Reveries greatly. More variety, more energetic performances, and more weirdness (in a good way). Less metal I suppose, but Heir Apparent and The Lotus Eater more than hit that quota for me.

Harlequin Forest is THE best song on Ghost Reveries, imo.
