IMO: Welcome Home is not that great. It's a classic case of a radio hit that is shallower than a lot of the band's better songs.

I think it's the riff.

I certainly like Welcome Home more than the song you sent me in my roulette which was about Domino's going bankrupt I think?

Domino the Destitute wouldn't be among the top 10 songs I'd send today, but I still like it better than Welcome Home.

Domino the Destitute is literally their best song (that I've heard).

I get that Welcome Home and more generally their earlier stuff is pretty popular, but honestly I just find it quite bland. Like, there's some cool stuff instrumentally but a complete lack of vocal hooks that interest me. But each to their own.

More, though it's still not consistent. The Afterman albums are easily the best thing I've heard from them and have some really cool songs, but I still don't love them.

Just finished first listens. I'm not putting together First Impressions tonight. I'll do it tomorrow, but I do have two overarching First Impressions.

1. I'll be shocked if this isn't the highest scoring round. How that affects the standings is one thing, but collectively, I'm expecting good scores.

2. I totally understand Claudio's voice not agreeing with some people, but you cannot deny that this guy leaves it all out there. Great performances practically across the board.

backstory...our town is having water isuues, so we have to drink bottled water, but can fill jugs at the town's water department. anyway..I needed a pitcher to combine jugs....

So I can't find the pitcher in our kitchen,. so I ask my wife where the (I'm such a dumbass I couldn't think of the word pitcher) fruit punch pourer is. Miraculously, she knows what I'm talking about.

Anyway she asks, "What do you need it for?"
WUT? I go, "What do you mean, what difference does it make? Where is it?"
Her: "Well, what are you using it for?"
Me: "Does it matter?"
Her: "yeah it does"
Me (WTF??): "So if I need it for one thing, it'll be found in the kitchen, but if I need it for another thing, it'll be found in the hallway?"
Her:....blank stare...
Me: "I need it to combine the water jugs"
Her: "Oh I think it's in here (hallway closet)"

to be fair almost across the board people avoided their poppier stuff and went for the heavier tunes, which is probably factoring into at least a good chunk of this  if you'd gotten all blood red summers, feathers, number cities etc. i bet you'd be singing a different tune

I don't think they have ever been an emo band. Sure they were lumped in with a lot of the emo bands of the early 2000s and they utilized some of those sounds a little bit, but Coheed was playing at a much higher level and their lyrics never delved into emo territory.

Their 1st 2 albums reak emo. There is no doubt there.  They definitely evolved since then.
