I can pretty much understand/relate to that - wanting others to like or appreciate what you yourself love (personally I'm not too bothered, but I do like it when it's the other way round as it's a good way to connect with people musically).

The thing I don't think I'll ever understand is when people get frustrated or annoyed at other people for liking something. I don't think it happens much on DTF thankfully, but I don't get it at all.

And it does happen somewhat on DTF, but not as bad as some of the DT facebook groups though, those places are shockingly toxic. Wanna get dragged? Just go and criticize the new album there...

Why are Haken so polarizing?

For me, I find absolutely nothing appealing in Ross' voice.  Their technical wankery to me is a hot mess more often than not, and I find no cohesion in the structure of their songs because of it.  It's like they're showing off their skills just because they can, not because it makes sense - which is also much of the reason i've got little interest in AVFTTOTW.

See, that's me.  It just seems so mechanical. I'm sure that's not the way the hard core fans feel, but for me, it's just very cold.  I've listened a fair amount and nothing puts the hairs up on the back of my arm.

I like that analogy; certainly it's no one's business why or how much I like Kiss. 


Although you keep mentioning that Japanese metal; I feel like that should be a round in this roulette.

This is a good song, but there’s no way I can dissect it in one listen.

One of the mellower songs, but has a nice steady pace and build. [Deathless]

This song feels a lot longer than it is. Not necessarily a complaint, but more of an observation.

Wow, this song was wonderful.

This song needs more listens, has a lot of potential.

The last two minutes of this was fantastic.

He was the original keyboardist on their demo (which you didn't get any songs from - it was solid and had promise but was self-produced and rough around the edges). He's still good friends with the band though and has provided electronic percussion and a couple of other synthy bits on their latest two albums.

Three of the original members had grown up and played music together, but Pete met them on an online forum (I think the JP forum actually). Their drummer at the time was... let's say not quite up to scratch, so he then got his school friend Ray (our families are good friends) to join and he's still there now on drums.

EDIT: Oh and you asked about leaving, sorry. Once they got a record deal, he was just coming to the end of high school and wanting to go to university, and at the time thought a professional band with touring etc. might limit what he was able to do in terms of his studies. One of the guitarists left at the same time, for similar career reasons.
