I still have fond memories of Haken's show I visited in Hamburg in 2019. It was Haken headlining with VOLA and Bent Knee as openers. Sounds like a nightmare for you Chad. Man those were good times. I got back to my room at like 2 AM.

Hopefully I'll be able to travel somewhere next year. Two years of almost no concerts and absolutely no travel have been a little bit difficult. I still have tickets to ProgPower Europe 2020 which is 2022 now. Perhaps that'll finally happen next autumn.

Anyway, I chose the shorter upbeat and poppier Traveller as a foil to the grand doominess of Deadhead (which I like better). It never occurred to me that it was reminiscent of 90s Rush, but now that you point that out, I have to agree.

I’ve sent my Haken picks. That was torturous, but probably not as bad as it’s going to be for me with BTBAM.

Adding my two cents on Devin, as a lurker of this roulette...

The first I've heard of him was a Strapping Young Lad song on a (I think) Century Media sampler in 1995...That song was S.Y.L. from their (his? I think he played everything on that one) debut. I thought it was nuts, kind of a crazier version of Fear Factory (with that epic chorus!). Didn't really follow up until City came out. The chaos on that album was real  and insane drumming from Gene Hoglan. Great stuff. I don't think any of the songs submitted here are from that record, if I'm not mistaken...

After that, I thought Infinity was a lot of fun (and Christeen is a great pop song!), Physicist was ok (that's where the first version of Kingdom is, although the version on Epicloud is better) and Terria was really, really good. Then I almost feel the novelty started wearing out a bit and I didn't follow his work that closely. I was excited about the comeback of Strapping Young Lad, but the heaviness on those albums felt a little contrived to me. Accelerated Evolution has a modern Rush undertone (as noted above) that I really enjoy.

Of the post-Terria album I've heard, Addicted is my favorite. It has the right amount of crunch, great melodies...and Anneke, of course  In fact, I'd say that might be one of my favorite of his, period.

I'm going to take advantage of the playlist on this thread to discover some of the more recent albums...

I clued Tim in to the By A Thread Live In London footage from her night.   I can watch that all day long.  She is so attractive, and the strength of her vocals just magnifies that. Add to it that she's clearly having a lot of fun playing with Dev, and it's a homerun.

I've just been quietly spectating this roulette (I probably would've asked to participate if I was more familiar with the discographies of Neal Morse, Coheed and Cambria, and Opeth), but I wanted to come by and say that I would've sent Thing Beyond Things in this round. I have no idea whether you would have liked it or not, TAC, but that's easily my favorite Devin Townsend song that I've heard thus far, and it's without a doubt one of my all-time favorite songs, and I'd send it just for that reason. My other choice would've been By Your Command, or something else from Ziltoid the Omniscient. There's still a lot of Devin Townsend's discography I've yet to listen to, but all the songs here I recognize are also great choices in my book.

i think when i ran a devin survivor like five billion years ago bastard won the entire thing, it's also really good but it's slotted between two songs i like even more so it gets kinda overshadowed in my mind

I just ran through both songs. They would both need a couple listens to sink in, but I found that with most of the songs in this round. By Your Command sounded interesting for sure.
