For the Distance Over Time tour, four of us we got the meet and greet, which meant we got a nice block of seats near the front.
We wound up in the second row, on John Myung's side.
As a guitarist, I kind of wished I was in front of Petrucci... but I was super happy anyway.
When the show started, I began watching JMX play, almost exclusively.
I mean, I knew he was good. I always thought he was Geddy Lee or Chris Squire good... but I had no idea what he was really capable of until that night!
I've been listening to DT for over 20 years, I've watched so many Blue-rays and YouTube videos... but watching him and hearing him live and that close was an all new experience.
He drives the band, his playing in a way IS the song! He has total fluidity between anchoring the band, playing guitar-like leads, and two-handed tapping.
Also, he is always changing his sound with a pedal board that is just massive.
I think he is the strongest, most creative, and downright coolest bass player out there!
