I chose the title track but it was a tough decision.  Every song is so good on this album, that my favorite could change from day to day.

I usually have a top 3 for every album. Currently it looks like this:

1 - Answering the Call
2 - The Alien
3 - A View

It's funny how Answering the Call is like a song I always expected to hear from them without even knowing!! Killer song.

And The Alien is just amazing to me, it is a perfect "mini-epic", it was the single and still what a great tune.

For the third one, it varies for me from time to time between Sleeping Giant, Awaken the Master and the Epic, such awesome songs.

It’s a toss up between View and Sleeping Giant right now.

Went for Sleeping Giant. “Shadows disappear..” is a real catchy earwormy chorus.

I really like the new album and my favourite track changes every day but there are three tiers to my ears:

Tier 1
Title track
Awaken the master
Trascending time

Tier 2
Alien
Answering the call

For now, I'm going to go with Sleeping Giant.  But so much awesomeness all over this album.  I'm constantly bouncing around all over the track listing as far as what I really want to hear more of at any given moment.

I like that the poll kinda shows the different way DT appeals to different people. All very different songs.

My fav is still Sleeping Giant. I also think I now put the title track below IT. I listened to the live version in Boston and damn that was a hell of a time.

Let's be honest: I think many like the song but only few would call it the best or their favorite song of the album (so yes, right now you seem to be the only one).
I think it's not a bad song. The chorus is quite catchy and looking at the harmonic structure the transitions between the individual parts (verse in e minor, bridge in g minor, chorus in a minor) work really well. But keeping the other songs of the album in mind I think they have a lot more to offer.

This song doesn't get enough accolades.  It's not my favorite, only because there are so many other good ones! But I like that it's easy to listen to and to get. It didn't need the "growing time". But then I like all their similar type songs. POW, BMUBMD, FITL.

Sleeping Giant for me.  Just love everything about it and I think it would make a great show opener.

First post.  I only became what I would call a "fan" of Dream Theater this year, so this has been my first opportunity to experience a new release along with everyone else.  I always appreciated their musicianship and enjoyed the one time I saw them live in 2002 (as co-headliners with Joe Satriani).  For a long time, I couldn't quite get into LaBrie's vocals and thought the music was a little too self-indulgent.  When I saw they were coming to Austin in December (previously), I immediately bought a ticket and then started picking up CDs.  Something finally clicked and now I can't stop listening to them!

Anyway, I am *loving* AVFTTOTW.  Not a bad song on it imo and the production is absolutely stellar.  I wish a lot of the older albums could be remixed to have such a perfect balance of instruments.
