I converted the run times to decimals and added them up like that. Turns out I was almost bang on.

For example six minutes and fifteen seconds would be 6.25 .

Because of this thread, I got interested in making a Mangini-era playlist. One CD was too constricting a length so I went double. Still had to make some cuts, but most of the good music is here and in an order that makes sense/sorta tells a story.

A couple notes:

 - I swear The Astonishing isn't that bad. But the tracks almost entirely don't work outside the context of the record, so it's hard to put them in any sort of playlist
 - Leaving out both Bridges in the Sky and Breaking All Illusions is weird, but both songs, in spite of their (numerous) good qualities, have serious structural problems. At a combined running length of over 20 minutes, I'd have to cut out too many other songs I like
 - Also not really thrilled about leaving out Far From Heaven, Beneath the Surface, The Looking Glass, Our New World, or Paralyzed. But they didn't make it for length/flow reasons

I know a couple of those aren't technically "long songs", but I like the way FAS bookends with the "Easter Egg" after IT, and "Beneath The Surface" just works so well after "Breaking All Illusions" that I wanted to keep them together. For a single CD, I would have to cut out the final minute of "At Wit's End" (because it would go over 80 minutes otherwise), but if this were a double vinyl, you could totally put it back in, and I would also stick in "Far From Heaven" before BAI as well to complete the closing trio of ADTOE (which is THE epic side of the album, more so than BITS/Outcry, IMO, as much as I love those two songs).

Now that we are five albums into the "Mangini-Era", I wonder what a single-disc compilation for the band would look like if they wanted to release one as a way to cover the last five albums/ten years of the band.

The rules are:
1- No more than 80 minutes of music! It must fit on a single CD. You may make an edit or cross-fade songs as you like, but please specify. You can also include radio/single edits of songs if they exist.
2- No more than 3 songs from any one album, just to not overly lean into one album or another.
3- Must include at LEAST one song from each of the last five albums, so even if you don't like The Astonishing, you've still got to include a song from it.
4- Come up with a title that isn't a title already used by the band. You can use a song title that isn't an album title, or a lyric from a song you choose as the album title.

OK, I did this without reading a single post but did want to follow the rules.
