So. Does this mean the whole tour has new dates now? I wonder if it will be officially announced tomorrow to coincide with the album release. I have been thinking about this for a while now.

No idea of it being tomorrow, would be cool to line it up with the release, but it's got to be soon if the dates are being updated.  Just checked my local show and nothing new.  Soon.

Hopefully we'll hear an official announcement soon then on the rest of the rescheduled dates.  I'm personally interested in if they'll be rescheduling the San Diego date maybe in a different venue.  2/2 in Phoenix and 2/5 in LA, leaves a few days open for SD - fingers crossed.

What's really bizarre is that if you click on all of the new songs on their official YT channel (which are still unavailable to those of us in the time zones where it is not 10/22 yet), the original tour dates are still listed underneath, so according to the band's official YT channel, the concert on 10/30 in LA is still a go.

The fact that whoever runs the band's official YT page has not fixed that yet is pretty weak.  It's not a good look for the band.

That kind of thing would've never happened if MP were still in the band.. :neverusethis:
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

This goes back to the AXS issue from before, the YT page is likely just pulling info from the ticketing websites and they haven't been updated yet.

Granted, this is a problem.

Well, based on the original dates and the fact that the first few shows will be at the beginning of Feb, I'm assuming north east dates will be around the end of Feb or beginning of March.

Wanted to see Tool on Feb 26 so still waiting to see what happens with DT.

All right, well.  Got the email confirmation from AXS that the show is rescheduled.  That's really the end of that one for me.

Well....Well....

I just received an Email from the Mesa Arts Center that the new Dream Theater tour date is...

2/2/2022... :omg:

Now I find that synchronicity hilarious.

Edit: It'll also be my 2nd year of being Alcohol Free...and right before their release date of 10/22... :lol :lol

I am definitely not going to miss this show.

Indeed...

And, lo and behold, at 6:16 p.m. yesterday, I got an email about the new date and my ticket being good for the new date.  Coincidence?

OOC I checked the LA show, and as others stated, you can still buy tickets.... but wow that venue is only like 1/4 sold.  It looks pretty big for DT to be playing.

It's a 7,100 seat venue, and they've played there before (when it was the Nokia Theater) on the ADTOE tour.  I recall it being mostly full, but I wasn't exactly looking.

Hmmm...I just went to the AXS website and searched for DT, and this came up:  https://www.axs.com/events/409559/dream-theater-tickets -- rescheduled to February 5.  And the ticket is updated in my AXS app.  No communication, but there we go.

For the ADTOE tour, they played my local amphitheater.... 17,500 capacity.  As you can expect, it was not sold well for the venue.  But I think there was a lot of interest in that tour with MM and a good reception from ADTOE.
Just because a venue seats X number of people doesn't mean you have to book it at that capacity. Plenty of venues allow you to scale down to suit your need. The Pavilion, where you saw them down here, seats 2500, 4000, or 8000, depending on the configuration you want. Same with Nextstage, which was their prior preferred venue. DT pretty consistently sells 1000 +/- 300 or so down here. Before they started playing their current shithole venue, they were always playing 5-8k seat venues scaled way down. The Pavillion gig was the 2500 seat configuration and they sold, at most, half of that. Probably a bit less.

Makes pretty good sense, actually. Seven to thirteen hundred seat venues don't generally have the stage requirements that they're going to want for their production. Plus, many of those will be GA only. If their options are to play an appropriately sized club with GA and a limited production, or a giant venue at 20% capacity that suits their needs perfectly, it's a pretty easy decision.

Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

on the live stream just now and the question was which song(s) the band was most looking forward to playing...the way JLB answered made it sound like the upcoming setlist wouldn't contain Transcending Time. He mentioned a few new songs (sleeping giant, alien) but also said they couldn't play the entire album because their catalogue is so expansive.

"Transcending Time, at some point..."

I think he then followed it with Awaken The Master.

Don't know if anyone else got that same impression.

JP also mentioned they have never played these songs live yet either, and they play it as a band for the first time when they rehearse. I do wonder if they actually try and play all the songs from the album, but if they can't quite get it down, they'll bench it. Which could explain why they play some stuff for soundcheck, just to play it and see.

Wow! Delaying the tour was not a unanimous decision. JP and JM didn't want to postpone the tour and the entire band is indeed vaccinated.

Interesting. He mentions that they are all inoculated in this, so I guess we can put the question of whether JP is vaccinated to rest.

I still don't understand what they think is going to be different in February/March. They could still get sick then too, that is part of life, always has been. The corporate media's fear porn is not going to subside since that is all they've got. Either go out and resume playing music, or continue playing pandemic.

By that time, they would most likely be facing an economy where people are already more confident to go back out and thus, the economic benefits of going on tour would then hopefully materially outweigh already the risks.

I'd like to hope so.  It's no guarantee though.  I was very skeptical on announcement that Feb/March would be any better than November, but some experts seem to think that may be the case.  Who knows.  I think the difference is likely a bit negligible personally.  If they pushed back to May I might think that would have been safer, but then again, who knows really?

It seems from a business perspective, the band doesn't to risk  the losses from having to cancel tours. Which makes me think that the guys just make enough to give us the best possible production they can afford, while also just making enough to embellish in some luxuries.

It's actually wise if you don't want any losses and just want to make profits, while also being able to play to more fans as peoples perceptions and feelings of fear will be dwindled a bit  enough to go see a show. Even though many are willing to go to a show, others are not and this affects ticket sales. If they did play, how much of the venues seats would have been sold compared to the average sales in the cities they play? The odds of those seats being about the same or more, they likely predicted a good turnout based on just how excited and how they felt about the album, it's a great indicator for knowing your audience. And people are enjoying it, immensely. Which means that more seats would most likely be bought, if not close to selling out, and those odds are better if they wait until the spring when things may possibly ease a bit more to get to these ticket sales.

A lot of these bands that are touring now can afford to take a loss, while others can not.

What I think this shows us fans is how expensive it is to be able to put on a tour with those flashy, spinning, multicolored lights and video screens, cool mic stands, catwalk platforms, and keyboard designs. If they could, I bet they would get pyro too, I am guessing that costs a lot too.

Anyways these are the reasons I feel now is the reason as was given by the JLB blabbermouth interview.

So I think I got to the point where I would OK with DT playing Mangini Era songs only and the concert would kick ass. In fact, a concert playing songs from the last 2 albums only would still get my money's worth.  I also hope Sleeping Giant is played. It's my early favorite of the album.

I'm skeptical as well (would bet winter will be bad) but I think the feeling among a certain group of people is - This summer/fall is when Delta really got out there in the US. By Winter, most people will have already had it or gotten their COVID shot, and the case count won't be as high as last winter. There are other mutations out there but they don't seem to get around like Delta does and they haven't made major inroads into the US.

While I am way more partial to the MP era, I would absolutely LOVE to see a completely Mangini era set list! YES, it would KICK ASS.
