Foundation on Apple TV
« on: September 25, 2021, 09:10:14 AM »
Well, seems I can add another 5/month to my streaming services tally. A friend just posted that the first episode is outstanding, so I bit the bullet and signed up for Apple TV.

I'll watch later tonight after work.

Anyhow, this is the Foundation thread, based on the infamous Asimov novels of the same name.

Watched the first episode.....pretty solid. It really jumps right into it so the first few minutes took me a bit to understand what was going on. I was too tired to watch Ep. 2.....probably watch tonight.

I didn’t look into it in depth but I know the next episode was there.

Through the first episode, it's really, really a beautiful production. Lots to unpack, but based on the source material, that doesn't surprise me.

It's been over 10 years since I last read the books but I didn't recognize or remember much of what I saw based on the books. It seemed like they took the concepts and made it actiony with a new protagonist? Am I totally off or?

Been 25 years since I read them, so I couldn't tell you. But it'd make sense to diversify from the text, if I remember correctly, the book read like the Silmarillion.

I'll definitely not watch until the whole thing is up. If the show is good and anything like that books, it will be best to watch it in its entirety instead of one episode at a time with some cliffhanger at the end and wait one or more weeks until the next fix.

Just read a piece talking about how they had to diversify from the books (opinion piece, not from the studio) since the initial book was 5 shorts spanning 5 centuries with completely unrelated characters. I think it's smart to approach it from the point of taking a slice of the stories and expanding them. Also seems they're bringing the robots into it with the references to the robot wars. As long as the production stays at the level it is, I'm all in.

Also Lee Pace is such a good choice for the emperor, he's naturally comes across as such a posh douche.

Damn the visual art and aesthetic of the show is just superb! When that elevator dropped I wish I saw that on a big screen, that was epic.

For reals, such an intense scene. Gotta watch the third episode again, I was tired as fuck and missed a lot.

I think the third episode asked a lot from the audience. The Empire scenes were beautiful and really well done but the second half felt very disjointed and overall fairly unconnected with what has already happened. Hopefully the next episode will provide some stronger narrative connection.

Really enjoying the show though.

I'm also enjoying 'Invasion' and I like(d) the first two seasons of 'See'. All have been high quality production and.....with Invasion and Foundation especially the storytelling method/delivery is a break from the norm. 'See' was pretty straight forward but I do like the way the storyline and characters keep progressing and don't get stale.

Yea i'm watching Foundation and Invasion right now and they're excellent so far. I've also seen For All Mankind and The Mosquito Coast and enjoyed them alot so apple is delivering the goods. I did start See but started another show so I put that on hold. So much to catch up on these days.

I tried Ted Lasso and Schmigadoon but those wasn't for me.

I'm up to date, but I seriously need to re-watch it. I usually catch it after work Friday and my mind wanders, so I'm a bit lost on the many storylines.

My wife and I finished this about a month ago.  I read the trilogy back in the early 80s, and then the follow ups.

So impressed with the visuals.  So excited to see what they would do with this.

I know I've gotten older, but for the life of me I didn't recall anything about the Invictus.  Geez, silly me, the writers of the show made that whole thread up :tdwn

The last couple of episodes finally got moving and wrapped some things up (how tiresome that the 'cat fight' had become).  But if they plan on spreading this out over seven more years, they need some new writing and direction.
...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

I had forgotten about it. The show was good, even though it didn't seem to match the source material very much. Still, they made something really cool based on it, definitely looking forward to it now.

Just started watching this show.  3 episodes in.  I was quite confused with the storyline to start and both my gf and I were a bit unsure to continue after the first episode but I was intrigued.  Now things make sense with the time line jumps so far that I'm able to enjoy and get real interested in where the story may be headed and learning more about these creepy Cleons.

I had forgotten about the show until I stumbled upon the new season. Empire is clearly the best part of the show.

It's a fascinating scenario. And, that role has been cast perfectly.

Finished season 1 last night, great ending.  We may start season 2 tonight, but I guess since it's currently airing, there's not a huge rush to start, but I'm hooked.

I'm really digging this show. I think it's been excellent.

Agreed...like most Apple Plus Series, it's far exceeding my expectations.

I tried Ted Lasso and Schmigadoon but those wasn't for me.

I enjoyed Schmigadoon season 1, but season 2 just feels cheap to me.  I think that was a one season show for me for the uniqueness of it, doing it again just has me uninterested.  Ted Lasso for all it's praises just didn't click for me at all besides a joke here and there that was funny.

I may have to check out Invasion then?  I feel like so far, the sci-fi stuff on Apple has been good (Foundation and Silo) but everything else so far has been meh to me.

Invasion was really well done. A very neat way of telling simultaneous stories…..keeping you intrigued with the ‘invaders’ without having to dedicate non stop action and screen time to them. The casting is great as every actor really does their job and gets you emotionally invested in them.

Finished last night.  Solid season.  Now I need to watch some recap videos on youtube because there's so much detail that I miss in every episode.
