Man, all the fogeys bashing the Van Hagar picks.

Here's a hot take. Van Hagar is the only Van Halen worth listening to. And only 5150 (the album), plus a few select songs from OU812 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Also I find it amusing that people keep guessing Nick for my submissions. Further proof that we are definitely the same person  :corn ;)

Maybe the host already knew that song??

Also, the only Heart Tim should've been sending was Corey Hart.

Man, Tim getting a flogging in this thread.

Yup, Fogeys all butt hurt. They thought they'd sucker me in so they're not looking up at me in the standings, but I still played by their rules and will still kick their asses.

To be honest, I'm more disappointed than butt-hurt.  I thought you had integrity.

NIN is a top 3 band for me, but I disqualified them from my submissions upon seeing the rating of The Downward Spiral. The Fragile is quite different album though.

Also, Nekov sent me Bowie's Dead Man Walking in my roulette way back when. It's a banger for sure.

Interesting choices too for NIN.  I would have done something completely different.

Nekov's Bowie choices would have been mine as well if I had sent Bowie.  Probably would have gone with I'm Afraid of Americans instead of Little Wonder, mostly to try and fit The Heart's Filthy Lesson in there as well.  Outside and Earthling are my favorite Bowie records by a good distance.

I would have liked to have sent Somewhat Damaged (my favorite song from The Fragile) or something from Broken but I was trying to avoid stuff that sounded too similar to TDS.

Yeah, I also thought sending a brit singing "I'm afraid of Americans" to another brit would be quite fitting  :lol, but I like Little Wonder more and I think Rich will as well.

I'm a full-on Blackmore fanboy, so consider that, but I'm with you 100%.  I've seen them three times now live, and I'm sorry, but you can do a LOT worse than watching Ritchie Blackmore play guitar for 2 hours while a smokin' hot blond dances in front of him (Candace is flat out GORGEOUS in person, and she's a way better singer live than you'd think).   Plus, his band is pretty good; the drummer is the guy that drummed for the Rainbow Romero Reboot a couple years ago (he's also from Hartford, CT, in case anyone cares).

For all his "miserableness", I sat front row center for the last show and at the end I got to shake hands with my hero and he actually thanked ME for coming to the show!  Granted, the dude next to me had a jester's hat on and clown shoes (I'm not kidding) but still.

(I say "me", but you know how that goes; there were four or five of us standing there.)

« Reply #1118 on: October 19, 2021, 01:11:37 PM »
Round 4 first impressions

You are remarkably consistent. [Evermind – Blackmore's Night]
More intense than I was expecting. [Nekov – David Bowie]
Nothing out of the ordinary, but quite enjoyable. [HOF – XTC]
Slightly dated production but there’s some great stuff in here. [Ruba – Psychotic Waltz]
Didn’t wow me, but there was one particular aspect I liked a lot. [king – The Beach Boys]
Loved the groove, but (one song aside) where were the melodies? [jingle – Prince]
Nice variety of styles - some I loved, others I’m not sure about yet. [Elite – David Bowie]
I’m sure I’ve heard this before, but hadn’t appreciated how good it is. [Cyril – 10cc]
Dark, atmospheric - not sure I took it all in on first listen but I liked it. [Puppies – In the Woods]
Quite enjoyable, but I’m not sure it goes far enough in doing what it does. [lonestar – Berlin]
A nice and varied listen - reminded me of one of your previous submissions. [Stadler – Squeeze]
Fantastic vocals, I just wonder if I might end up finding the music too tame. [TAC – Heart]
Opening up the 90s seems to have led us closer to your usual comfort zone. [Sacul – Gustavo Cerati]
This was pretty much comparable to what I’ve previously heard from this artist. [romdrums – Genesis]
This was a moderate improvement on what I’ve previously heard from this artist. [Kwyjibo – Van Halen]
This was an enormous improvement on what I’ve previously heard from this artist. [Buddy – Nine Inch Nails]
The vocals aren’t the most consistent, but the music is an enjoyable fusion of styles. [Luke – Danzig]
Not sure what I’ll think of a whole album, but for now I’m rather digging the theatricality. [wolfking – King Diamond]

just sent ... and now waiting for the other fogeys to tell me that I sent the complete wrong set of songs  ;D

 ;)

Well, I've said it twice already, so no need to hammer the point home again.

But man, what a hot take.  You got some stones.  It could just pan out though.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Remember the mark of a great vocalist is if TAC hates them with a special passion
