Yeah... that Boston submission is da bomb.  I was going to do 3/4 of those - replacing More Than A Feeling with Let Me Take You Home Tonight.  And yeah, I know the former is their flagship song, but I wanted to go with at least one 'not obvious' choice.  Same with Elton John, though I'm not sure I could play him and NOT use Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting

Not to say they aren't awesome they way they are, I would have submitted

Journey: "Who's Crying Now" for "Edge Of The Blade"
Boston: "Don't Look Back" for "Rock And Roll Band"
Phil Collins: "We Said Hello, Goodbye" or "Don't Let Him Steal Your Heart Away" for "Easy Lover"

Elton is just perfect the way it is.

Scorpions is good too; love the "Yellow Raven" inclusion; I would have put "In Trance" or "We'll Burn The Sky" for "When The Smoke Is Going Down".

FYI, I don't mean to be critical; these are all formidable submissions.  Just talking my personal preference.

Like jingle said you could send almost any Journey song but I would have added Faithfully. Yeah it's cheesy and sappy but it's also one of the best rock ballads ever written. And Perry is just jaw-dropping on it.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Outing myself, but I intentionally didn't include any of the hits. Of course, Who's Crying Now and Faithfully are both tremendous.

All I can say is that, as amazing as I find Pete Townshend and my submission, I think I may get creamed by the quality of this round.

A) I hear ya on not wanting to submit songs from just one album, but c'mon... it's Boston/Boston - the greatest debut in rock history (regardless of the fact Appetite outsold it).
B) I used to detest Easy Lover, but then something really clicked with that riff that plays underneath Bailey's vocals.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

I don't know about the other fogeys, but it kinda brings a tear to my eye to see Journey, Boston, Elton, Phil, Pete, Scrops, and Chicago all in the same round of a roulette.

For real.  My Dad would've geeked out about the bands chosen in this round!  Just missing some Doobie Brothers and Santana.

Indeed.  Plus, RnR Band > DLB.

I mean, why not just send the opening 4 tracks of one of the greatest albums of all time?  Seems like a fine plan to me.  Strange that the sender though the order needed to be re-arranged, but whatevs.

I love When the Smoke is Going Down, I think that might've been the first Scorpions song I've heard, I don't quite remember.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Round 3 first impressions

Enjoyably bonkers. [Luke – Focus]
Wow, this was quite a journey! [Sacul – Mike Oldfield]
Lovely sound and great playing. [Nekov – Pat Metheny]
Mysterious and eerie and pretty cool. [Buddy – Comus]
More serious and heartfelt than I expected. [HOF – Journey]
Very nice - chilled but with a fair bit going on. [Elite – Wes Montgomery]
This was great - varied, catchy and surprisingly rocking. [Cyril – Elton John]
Wasn’t convinced at first, but this got better with each track. [TAC – Boston]
One possible dud, but otherwise a bunch of good, catchy songs. [jingle – Phil Collins]
Didn’t sound very distinctive, and yet some of the songs were really nice. [Stadler – Billy Squier]
A good illustration of not needing to do anything fancy to write solid rock songs. [wolfking – Magnum]
I can see what you were going for, but it sounded a bit middle of the road for me. [Kwyjibo – Nik Kershaw]
Bold choice to go for a style that I’m not sure has ever scored well in my roulettes. [Evermind – Scorpions]
Talented playing and a distinct sound - this is more like it as far as this genre goes. [romdrums – Jean-Luc Ponty]
There’s something about this that reminds me of what I liked in your first submission. [king – Chicago]
Not the strongest vocally, but the delivery is convincing and the music is mostly great. [lonestar – Pete Townshend]
The general sound and style was cool and dark, but not sure the music matched up to it. [Ruba – Trouble]
Hmm, well, there’s plenty to like but mainly I’m just glad that vocals in this genre have since improved. [Puppies – Dinosaur Jr.]

Wow, this was quite a journey!

This must belong to HOF.

:neverusethis:

Or is it a misdirect? Alternatives might be:

-More serious and heartfelt than I expected.
-This was great - varied, catchy and surprisingly rocking.
-Wasn’t convinced at first, but this got better with each track.

Talented playing and a distinct sound - this is more like it as far as this genre goes.

I hope this is mine.

I thought this might be Boston.

One possible dud, but otherwise a bunch of good, catchy songs.
A good illustration of not needing to do anything fancy to write solid rock songs.

There’s something about this that reminds me of what I liked in your first submission.

one of these for me?

I was thinking Chicago.
