Soooooooo old.

I say that lovingly

IV is an amazing album.

I might need a revisit then.

I remember thinking we waited this long for an album this great?

WTF are you talking about? :lol

I take it back.

Go Vol4 instead Tim.  That might be more your liking.

Yeah, I remember trying a lot with IV, just didn't click.  Your Great Escape is another killer tune though.

Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Rainbow in the Rose is a great song.  I'm not a big fan of those 5 tracks though besides that one.  Surrender is alright I guess.

I've always preferred Pull onwards.  That's a great album but the last two also are fantastic.

Yep, the first two Winger albums are fun in their own way with some great moments here and there, but Pull was on another level altogether. Kip’s solo stuff kind of followed that direction and built on it. I’m actually listening to IV now for the first time in a while. Kip always says that album is where he tried to merge his classical composition with rock and it just went over the fans heads, so now he kind of sticks to straight rock with Winger. I don’t think I really got all of IV either, but listening to it now I can definitely envision some of the more complex songs on it as classical compositions. Have always felt there was a strong King Crimson influence on it as well.

I struggled with IV.  It's very spotty, but a few really good songs.  Clover is easily a Winger fav.  I just love the more straight up direction they took for the last 2.  Loved the more metal Karma too a lot when it came out.

IV is just really dense musically and a bit dissonant at places. There are some great rockier moments too but a lot of it does sound strange in a hard rock/metal context. And then some of the ballads are just a little bit oddly slow and not very exciting. But yeah, Four Leaf Clover is incredible (and sounds a lot like Discipline era KC to me). I actually don’t even own Karma because everything I’ve heard just sounds like dumbed down metal to me. I do like Better Days Coming, which is a little more balanced between the straight up rock and more proggy and melodic bits. But for the most part I reach for Pull or Kip’s solo stuff when I’m in a Winger mood.

Even though I liked Karma.  Dumbed down metal is probably a decent description of it.

I think you nailed the issues with IV for me too right there.

A couple of very enjoyable tunes, but the rest did little for me.
Moody and emotive - I definitely like it, but do I like it enough?
The music was pretty good, and the vocals added a nice warmth.
A little middle of the road probably, but salvaged by one great tune.
The style isn’t anything special really, but the execution is really nice.

Tryin' to narrow it down. One of these?
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

I've updated all the sufficiently narrowed-down correct guesses.

Cyril, Kade, Chad, RJ and Harry, you all correctly included your impressions in your lists, but you need to narrow down further.

Alright my dudes, for the last time this roulette, it's time for some first impressions.

Round 6 first impressions

Epic as hell.
This was a lot of fun.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. [romdrums – Winger]
Seems like a nice mix of influences here.
These songs are cool in slightly different ways.
I like weird music, but I suspect this will be too weird.
Really cool mix of groove and a bit of experimentation. [Elite – Vulfpeck]
Some of this was gorgeous, some was quite surprising. [Sacul – Sufjan Stevens]
Grand and immersive, might be your best of this roulette.
A couple of very enjoyable tunes, but the rest did little for me.
Moody and emotive - I definitely like it, but do I like it enough?
Sounded intriguing and kind of bleak, not sure what to think yet.
The music was pretty good, and the vocals added a nice warmth. [HOF – Kip Winger]
Making good use of being able to send music from this millennium.
A little middle of the road probably, but salvaged by one great tune.
The style isn’t anything special really, but the execution is really nice.
This was excellent - quirky, intense and with some great riffs and hooks.
Incredibly similar sound to another band I quite like, if a little more serious.

I think mine is in here.  Dammit.  I was looking at the submissions and honestly thinking "wow, I'm going to win this", thinking only Simon and Garfunkel is at the level of Paul McCartney.  But looking at those first impressions....  I just hope I don't lose to Winger and Motley Crue.  :) :) : )

I care not to narrow my choices down, since they were all pretty bleak.  It's probably just a matter of whether there were a couple of good tunes, or just one great one.

I'm guessing power ballads aren't your thing.  And I knew from the outset that Wildside was going to be too rudimentary and not metal enough.

I have no regrets though.
