Twosuitsluke's Second Roulette v. Final Results Part 2
« on: September 01, 2021, 05:12:02 AM »
So a little late, but here we are...

My second roulette (fanfare, applause etc)!

It's been like 5 years since I did my first, I think? I've wanted to do another for ages but my life got increasingly busier over that period. I'm kind of at the point where I have a BIT more free time, but still don't expect this to run particularly quickly. The main thing that helped give me a kick up the butt is the roulette drought we are in!

All are welcome in this roulette, but there are a few newcomers to DTF who I would really like to take part.

I'm not putting a cap on the numbers, but I may have to if we hit more than say, 15?

This will be a pretty standard roulette, as I can't really keep up with doing anything too fancy. I'd really prefer Spotify links for submissions, but am happy to except other routes if the song you want is not on Spotify.

We'll have 10 rounds, one song per round. I don't think we'll have eliminations until maybe the 8th round, but I may change my mind if I have a lot of participants. I will have a think about if I want to try any themed rounds, and get back to you all. Let's just say the first two rounds are open, free for alls though.

My banned list is all the artists I have on my ipod, so they are my bands on regular rotation. I have a ton of stuff I have listened to via Spotify though, so there will be many bands not on this list who may be banned, because I've heard enough to know they're not for me, or partially band (certain albums) which I will allow.

The best thing to do is check out my last.fm account as that has pretty much everything I listen to, or have checked out since my last roulette. https://www.last.fm/user/twosuitsluke83

For those of you who know what's up, let me know if I've missed anything.

I might consider joining this if I can find enough material to sustain up to 10 rounds. I'm unsure how much of my submissions would be ones you enjoy, but there's a couple artists that don't appear on your banned list that I'd like to send, and there's some pretty obscure stuff I could send as well (well, obscure for DTF, at least). I also have some video game music in mind if you're not already familiar with a wide variety of video game soundtracks.

When does the sign-up period end? I'll be sure to try and make up my mind on whether or not I'll join by then. And if I don't join, I hope it's alright if I spectate the whole thing.

But of course.

You might not have a choice TAC, your hit rate of stuff I like has been great recently. Especially those albums by Code and Burial in the Sky! Will you join if not too many newbies join? Deal?

Yeah join dude. Not sure when the sign up period is going end to be honest. I'm happy for you to send as obscure as you can. My taste in video game music is basically Final Fantasy music, with some other stuff from my childhood. Legend of Zelda, that sort of thing.

I'd be happy to participate, if that's ok! Clearly, I'm new to this, so I might need some hand-holding  ;)

For starters, I use Amazon for my streaming. I have a free Spotify account, but I don't really use it. Can I send links to songs with that? Otherwise how does submitting songs generally work?

Holy shit, a roulette! Yes, please!

Of course you're in dude. I was reading back through my last roulette and you were so unlucky/I did you dirty. You sent me loads of songs that didn't particularly click with me, but went onto be some of my favourite band discoveries. Think you sent Agent Fresco, Obsidian Kingdom, Maudlin of the Well, possibly Alcest? Fucking great bands. I feel if I'd ran that last roulette as an album roulette you'd have won. I mean, I'm real tempted to run this as an album roulette to be honest.

I might consider joining this if I can find enough material to sustain up to 10 rounds. 100%, you were one of the new guys I was hoping would join. With sending songs, to be honest you don't even necessarily need to send me a link, just tell me the song and artist. It'd be good if you could check if it's on Spotify first, then send me like YouTube link if it's not. I guess links are useful if there may be multiple versions of the same song, and you want to make sure I'm listening to the right one.

Basically you all send songs, we rip on Elite and Sacul for not sending yet, Cyril demands hangmanen, Evermind swoops in and solves all of hangmanen before anyone had guessed a letter, everyone starts spamming popcorn emojis, I make feeble excuses for not delivering results, Cyril sends for the other 9 rounds as he is bored of waiting, TAC forgets what he even sent, repeat over ten rounds taking up to 6 months.

Good luck

Holy shit, a roulette! Yes, please!

Of course you're in dude. I was reading back through my last roulette and you were so unlucky/I did you dirty. You sent me loads of songs that didn't particularly click with me, but went onto be some of my favourite band discoveries. Think you sent Agent Fresco, Obsidian Kingdom, Maudlin of the Well, possibly Alcest? Fucking great bands. I feel if I'd ran that last roulette as an album roulette you'd have won. I mean, I'm real tempted to run this as an album roulette to be honest.

Alcest isn't something I would send but the other three are definitely me. Glad I was able to send you something you enjoy :D
(That's going to be more difficult now then!)

You really were playing the long game, I really started to dig Maudlin of the Well about 3 and a half years after you sent it. 2025 twosuitsluke is looking forward to what you've got  :tup

I've thought of enough submissions to send, and I'll try to think of some backup options in case I'll need them. In any case, consider me officially part of this (though it looks like you already have  :lol)! I'll send the first submission once Round 1 starts.

Yeah, I was noticing the lack of Katatonia in the list...however, I assume you are familiar with them (given other names in the banned list)?

Is there a length limit for songs / submissions?

I've got a big list of potential artists to send, though I'm not quite sure what your tastes are quite yet. Is what you wrote in the last roulette about that still accurate?

Basically you all send songs, we rip on Elite and Sacul for not sending yet, Cyril demands hangmanen, Evermind swoops in and solves all of hangmanen before anyone had guessed a letter, everyone starts spamming popcorn emojis, I make feeble excuses for not delivering results, Cyril sends for the other 9 rounds as he is bored of waiting, TAC forgets what he even sent, repeat over ten rounds taking up to 6 months.

Good luck

You forgot the "Congrats ariich!" part.  ;)

Otherwise, that paragraph is 100% accurate. ;D
Nah, I got this one in the bag!
