Either HOF or Rom.

Definitely not me.

Not familiar with Sieges Even, but maybe I should be?

That is a big yes. Check out their last two studio albums before they broke up.

Agree.  They are both beautiful albums.  I prefer the styles of both of those over most their old stuff too.

Sieges Even - Sequence VIII: Styx

Either HOF or Rom.

Definitely not me.

Not familiar with Sieges Even, but maybe I should be?

That is a big yes. Check out their last two studio albums before they broke up.

Now I remember where I heard the name before. This is the band that became Subsignal. I did stumble upon their La Muerta album and thought it was interesting (though they ripped off the Tin Spirits’ Wired to Earth album cover). Listening to Steps now, and I thought it was Ray Alder singing at first. Very cool stuff rhythmically. Kind of King Crimson meets Fates Warning. Very un-melodic vocally though (not unlike Arch era Fates).

They are not. For some reason all Sieges Even albums were pulled from streaming services with the exception of their first 2 :dunno:

Wow!  That's strange.

I have both on CD.  Got a live album from their final tour too I think it is.

I could share the mp3s if I knew how.  I'm sure they are all on YouTube.

Not familiar with Sieges Even, but maybe I should be?

I'm not quoting all subsequent replies, but I'm adding my emphatic yes  :)

They've changed quite a bit throughout their discography. One constant factor is the amazing rhythm work by the Holzwarth brothers.

First album, Lifecyle is basically techno-thrash in the vein of Watchtower. The second, Steps, is perhaps their most "difficult" and impenetrable. Not nearly as heavy as the first, and kind of hard to get into. Singer is the same, and not particularly suited for the new style, in my view. Then comes A Sense of Change, with a new singer. This is probably my favorite. Very "pretty" album, great guitar work, and VERY strong Rush influence.

More changes for the following two records, Sophisticated and Uneven. Yet another singer, and new guitar player as well. I especially like the first of these two. Slightly different style, a little more fusion-y on one hand, but also heavier, as the songs tend to move at a generally brisk pace. Guitar work is still excellent. And the drumming is top class.

Then...you guessed it...more changes: the last two albums, The Art of Navigating by the Stars and Paramount, see the return of the guitarist from the first three and yet another singer - the best they've had, actually. As already mentioned here, they are both very good, with more focus on melody (although by no means "easy" albums)

The singer and guitar player have continued on with Subsignal (actually, if I remember correctly, it might well be they had put the band together before The Art.., but then decided to join forces with the Holzwarth brothers under the Sieges Even name), more or less in the vein of these last two albums, maybe a tad more streamlined. All of their albums range from good to very good.

Definitely not the one I would have sent. I always felt like that horn line at the very beginning was noticeably off-time. :lol

Yeah, I really prefer the first album overall, but there are some really high moments on the second too. Not sure if you’ve heard the recent EP (it’s on Bandcamp only) but there are some cool songs on it as well.

That's a pretty good summation. To your last point, they did form a band called Val'Paraiso, but never got a chance to do anything. I can't remember who else was involved with that project besides Arno and Markus, but it was indeed a precursor to Subsignal.

Paramount was a bit hit or miss with me, but The Art of Navigating by the Stars is absolutely beautiful. I'd recommend it for sure.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

If you liked that one, you should definitely check out Sieges Even's last two albums, as Wolfking suggested...

A Sense of Change is easily my favorite pre-Arno album. Sophisticated is pretty good too. Never really cared for Life Cycle or Steps and Uneven was, well, uneven  :lol It's not a bad album, just not amazing.

I will say, besides Neil Peart and Geddy Lee, the Holzwarth brothers are probably my favorite rhythmic duo in music.

Yep, pretty much how I feel about the albums too. I enjoy Life Cycle for what it is...almost a different band, though (sound-wise, I mean). And, indeed, the Holzwarth brothers are something else.

Imo, Subsignal > Sieges Even. Art of Navigating is a gem, but nothing else clicked for me with them.
