I'm listening to that Major Parkinson song after seeing that they were a progressive rock band and now I'm thoroughly confused.

EDIT: Sent something that sounds nothing like that!

I don't know if that song is an anomaly, but they are not what I expected based on forum and internet hype.  They have some shared attributes with stuff I like, but are a bit over the top for me. 

It was probably the worst possible song to send, and it makes so much more sense in context of the album. I wholeheartedly recommend you listen to one of the albums Blackbox, Twilight Cinema or Valesa to get a better idea of what they are about. Personally, I love this stuff.

Of course, LithoJazzoSphere can expect some of it (not this song) in his roulette (if he wants).

In an attempt to save myself embarrassment, and complete this round before Litho finishes his first three rounds, I am on roulette admin duty right now.

The Christmas tree is up, the kiddo is in bed and the wife is out at work 

I've got 12/15 submissions in, so gonna give them a listen and prepare 1st impressions.

Edit: Clearly I need to threaten eliminations every round. This is a much better round than the last one and I would say 4 of you have sent your best song yet!

I haven't decided what to do about eliminations in mine yet.  Part of me doesn't like the notion of them and just wants the full complement of music from all my participants.  Another part does see that they can instill some urgency and desperation that can sometimes bring the best out of people.

I refuse to do eliminations in my roulettes. I don't invite people to my house only to throw half of them out halfway through the party.

As a player, I've been eliminated many times, but once I do get eliminated, I extremely rarely ever check back into the thread.

Yeah, I don't like that sense of disconnection.  I don't know if anyone here has played Euro-style board games, but a key difference that distinguishes them from some other previous types was that they try to keep everyone still involved in them until the end. 

On the other hand, I do know that if there were no eliminations, I might have sent some different things to 425.  Maybe he'd have liked them even more, I don't know, but it does shift how I conceptualize each round. 

For some I get that it's a logistical thing.  An entire album or long EP from 20 participants is a lot of music to get through for people with more limited listening hours.

Yea but if you invite someone over and they shit in your sink multiple times, you've got to chuck them out at some point.

On the other, other hand, the fear of elimination is making me play relatively safe compared to what I'm capable of.  That's also being new to this whole thing and kind of hoping I can win a couple.  I'd love to get to the point where I can be Stadler or Cyril and not give a fuck, just send something unusual that they might hate, but also might blow someone's socks off.  I'm holding back on most of those for now because they're risky.

You just never know though. Any song in a vacuum of a roulette round can be excellent, even if it doesn't exactly jive with the host's tastes. Someone scored big with the Steam Powered Giraffes in my 2nd roulette.
