Couple of recent releases:
Munroe's Thunder - The Black Watch: Band led by, well, Ronny Munroe (at some point singer for Metal Church). This was a fun listen. Heavy metal that's both melodic and "dramatic", crunchy but with abundant doses of keyboards too (more hammond-like). Good vocals and good songs
MMXX- Sacred Cargo: Sort of a gothic/doom supergroup, had no idea. Core members are guitarist (formerly?) from Italian band The Foreshadowing plus bassist and drummer from US band Daylight Dies. They then have a bunch of guest singers - among others, Mick Moss (Antimatter), Carmelo Orlando (Novembre), Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride) and the mighty Dan Swano! The sound is actually pretty consistent, despite the different singers. It's appropriately morose and melancholic, as you'd expect. Not rewriting the rules of the genre, really, but it's very well done. Great production and tasty guitars. And yes, the closer sung by Dan Swano is excellent - we get to hear him do both cleans and growls. Only one listen so far, but I enjoyed it.
