I listened to the first song on the new Sumerlands. I'm not familiar with them. It wasn't bad. I'll hit the whole thing soon enough.

I'm enjoying it a fair bit. It has a "breezier" vibe than the debut, and some songs almost have a melodic rock influence creeping in, but I like how it still has that nocturnal mood throughout.

There is definitely an 80s Ozzy influence (I've read the guitar player saying that much)...that dark-but-catchy approach I love from Bark at the Moon. Also, Edge of a the Knife could totally be a Scorpions song from that era.

You should check out the debut too. Different singer, a little darker perhaps. Very good record.

I'm going to try and knock them out tonight. Yeah the singer is what you'd get if Ozzy and Pete Morten had a baby.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

EVERYTHING IS ROTTEN TO THE COOOOOOORRRREE

You know, I haven't gotten around to listening to this yet...I've read that Flynn has taken the kitchen-sink approach, which makes me a little wary, but I should listen for myself...

Just finished up the first listen and I really liked this record.

It is a really vocal centric album, the songs are all relatively short and it's more of a pop sound than they've had before. That all being said, it still sounds like The Mars Volta. I'm far from a super fan but I enjoy their music.

I'd listened to all the singles prior to release but damn, Vigil is hitting me so much harder than before. It is just gorgeous and Cedric's vocal melodies are doing it for me   :heart

This.

It’s good pop music, don’t get the hate (2.7/5 on Rate Your Music).

OK, I just listened to a few songs from each of their albums. I'm not sure it's something I'm going to follow up on. I prefer the first album though. At least that singer helps give the band a "vibe".

Asunojokei - Island

One one hand this album art is completely unfitting to what the music sounds like but at the same time it kinda works. :lol

Update: the album art actually fits perfectly as far as I'm concerned, the last two songs literally sound like the emotional ending of a romantic drama anime if it were accompanied by black metal. :lol

Would recommend this one unless you can't stand your blackgaze this bright-sounding.

Yea it is really dividing opinions over on reddit. I guess a lot of people are really opinionated about the type of album TMV 'should' be making. I might pop over to RYM and give myself a laugh at the reviews.

I'm listening to it again, which will be the 5th time in 2 days  :lol I can't stop listening!

I have it on vinyl, as well as the following album, Sweet Dreams. It has been many years since I’ve listened to Sword.

Alien Weponary is giving me serious Sepultura vibes, it's pretty good.

Been going back through some Machine Head albums since the release of their latest. Supercharger gets slated, probably because it's them at their most nu metal, but I fucking love it. Not their best, but a fun listen  :metal

Onto this now  :metal

How is the remix? I'm hesitant because the Momentary Lapse remix was hot garbage

I really like it, it especially makes the drums and keyboards sound more prominent. The intro to 'Pigs' was a highlight on my first listen.

This is a nice listen.  Lots of variety and a lot of really interesting parts.

I like how the songs flow into each other.  Blomsterkrans is incredible and the solo in Tear Down was magnificent.  Up to Monster now.
