Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Secrets of the Moon - Black House

Really good gothic/dark (and whereabouts) album from this German band...this came out in 2020. Apparently they used to be black metal-adjacent in the past. I don't have their earlier albums, except for the one prior to this (SUN), which I guess was a little more transitional (and pretty good too). Clearly, in Black House they have completed the transition  :) Some tunes are SUPER catchy (Veronica's Room...that chorus!!), others a bit moodier (Sanctum, He Is Here, Mute God), with nice pop sensibilities too.

Oh, and bonus track for this post - New song from Tribulation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK3eHctm8z4

I'd say it sounds like Tribulation  Some neat solos in there....

I have Black House and Privilegvm Saved in my Spotify library. Black House is a nice album.

And hell yes, the new Tribulation!  :metal

Speaking of Goth influence, I've spun this a bit lately.. It's a solid album on my second tier of 2022 albums.

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Just finished up the first listen and I really liked this record.

It is a really vocal centric album, the songs are all relatively short and it's more of a pop sound than they've had before. That all being said, it still sounds like The Mars Volta. I'm far from a super fan but I enjoy their music.

I'd listened to all the singles prior to release but damn, Vigil is hitting me so much harder than before. It is just gorgeous and Cedric's vocal melodies are doing it for me   :heart

I listened to the first song on the new Sumerlands. I'm not familiar with them. It wasn't bad. I'll hit the whole thing soon enough.

Nice dude. I checked out the new Sumerlands as I knew I'd heard of the band before. Turns out I'd listen to the previous album as well.

Just listening to the new Destrage then will be onto new Clutch. I don't mind Clutch but never really spent a great deal of time listening to them. I'd say Psychic Warfare is my favourite album, and by quite a margin.

New Tómarúm is awesome  :metal

Surprisingly decent. Title track would be genuinely great if Ozzy didn’t sound like a robot.

I listened to the first song on the new Sumerlands. I'm not familiar with them. It wasn't bad. I'll hit the whole thing soon enough.

I'm enjoying it a fair bit. It has a "breezier" vibe than the debut, and some songs almost have a melodic rock influence creeping in, but I like how it still has that nocturnal mood throughout.

There is definitely an 80s Ozzy influence (I've read the guitar player saying that much)...that dark-but-catchy approach I love from Bark at the Moon. Also, Edge of a the Knife could totally be a Scorpions song from that era.

You should check out the debut too. Different singer, a little darker perhaps. Very good record.
