It was 2007 today at work...

Very underrated Scorpions album, imo. I know the competition is not very harsh, but this is easily my favorite post-Face the Heat.

Oh, and since you are doing 2007, and I remember you mentioned you wanted to explore some more of this band, I'd recommend:



Amorphis - Silent Waters (2007)

...one of my favorites of their current "era" (i.e. with Tomi Joutsen singing). Fantastic stuff.

I saw Silent Waters on the 2007 list, but I don't have it.

I did check out the new Amorphis album, but I fell asleep. Really fucking bland.

With the new Black Map vinyl I ordered I got a single 45 with my purchase included. The band is called The Paper Sons and I took a listen to it yesterday, intrigued I checked out their album In The Throes...[/b] and it kicks a lot of ass. A shame the songs have barely any listens.

I think Halo is a very good Amorphis album. At this point, they are not going to reinvent the wheel...I do wish they'd shake things up a little, but the quality of what they do (for me) is still high enough that I'm not complaining.

Tim - you should definitely check out Tales from the Thousand Lakes, their second album, from 1994. Such a unique (at the time, especially!) folk-death-doom album. It's mostly harsh vocals (the rhythm guitarist was the vocalist too), with very few guest cleans here and there. The melodies, the atmosphere...it's an amazing album and it really takes me back...

Yes, Queen of Time is very good too. My only gripe with it is that it goes a little too "symphonic metal" at times (the orchestrations are great - it's just that I like my Amorphis a little less bombastic  ). Just a matter of personal taste, though, as the album surely was a great accomplishment for them...
