The L.I.F.E. Project - Big F.O.U.R EP

Josh Rand (Stone Sour) and Casandra Carson's (Paralandra) side project band. They put out an EP of original material last year, which introduced me to the amazing voice of Casandra, and just released this tribute EP to the Big Four.

I just finished it and, holy crap, Casandra blew my mind on One. Her voice is just so powerful. I'm actually seeing Paralandra in a couple of weeks so I get to hear her live.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

I liked the EP from last year, and this showed up in my Spotify radar on Friday.  Looking forward to giving it a spin.

Literally this minute finished Virus by Haken. Did Vector last night. Going to do each studio album in reverse chronological order (Affinity, Restoration, Mountain, Visions, Aquarius) and then cap it off with L1VE, working the bonus EP tracks in between I’d I can work out a good way to do so. Any ideas?
Let's go with a P for Deadeye has premature alphabetejaculation.

Agreed, 100%. Great display of many facets of Sabbath's sound.

Aaah, the memories! To this day, one of my absolute favorite melodic death metal albums. Still remember when this came out - Went into it as a big fan of their debut (Skydancer) and had high expectations. When Punish My Heaven started, I knew I was in for a treat. So much going on in here (sometimes maybe a little too much ;D). Great record.

Brad Mehldau - Jacob's Ladder

EDIT:  Holy crap, this is awesome.  If you like jazz as well as prog, I HIGHLY suggest this album.  Here's a blurb from Mehldau's website about it:

Quote
Brad Mehldau’s album Jacob’s Ladder features new music that reflects on scripture and the search for God through music inspired by the prog rock he loved as a young adolescent – his gateway to the fusion that eventually led to his discovery of jazz. Featured musicians on the album include label mates Chris Thile and Cécile McLorin Salvant, as well as Mark Guiliana, Becca Stevens, Joel Frahm, and others.

You can tell some of the songs he "covers" ("reinterprets" is a better term - some sections are surprisingly close to the original, while other sections explore tangents as well) from the track listing.

01. maybe as his skies are wide
02. Herr und Knecht
03. (Entr’acte) Glam Perfume
04. Cogs in Cogs, Pt. I: Dance
05. Cogs in Cogs, Pt. II: Song
06. Cogs in Cogs, Pt. III: Double Fugue
07. Tom Sawyer
08. Vou correndo te encontrar / Racecar
09. Jacob’s Ladder, Pt. I: Liturgy
10. Jacob’s Ladder, Pt. II: Song
11. Jacob’s Ladder, Pt. III: Ladder
12. Heaven: I. All Once – II. Life Seeker – III. Würm – IV. Epilogue: It Was a Dream but I Carry It Still

My knowledge on DT is spotty.  Mainly have a few of their later ones. Saw the reissue of this plus Minds I yesterday so picked both up.  First time hearing it and I'm not disappointed.

Oh, I am jealous then  ;D

DT were true pioneers of the genre, even before they got relatively bigger. Their debut was a little rough around the edges (understandably), but it had some real gems (and some delicious "folky" touches) - incidentally, Anders Friden (now vocalist for In Flames) did vocals on that one, and Mikael Stanne played guitar. The Gallery was in many ways a big leap forward. It still suffers a bit from excess of "youthful enthusiasm" and sometimes the songs don't run as smooth as they could, but there is so much magical stuff in it. For me, as I said above, it also brings back memories of a fantastic time of music discovery.

The Mind's I was good too - more streamlined, which at the time was a little disappointing, but with great songs nonetheless (Dreamlore Degenerate, Hedon, Insanity's Crescendo, Tongues...)

I'm not sure how they slipped by when I was heavily getting into In Flames and Soilwork.  I think I just took to them more back then thinking about it now.  DT have always been a bit harder to get into but this is a wonderful album.
