Sufjan Stevens & Angelo De Augustine - A Beginner's Mind

How did you like this album? Sufjan Stevens can be really hit or miss to me personally.

You didn’t ask me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up in my top 3 of 2021 at the end of the year. I think it’s excellent.

I know what you mean, but for me, this one is a winner.  Really good stuff.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

So far so cool. Still need to catch up with this year's releases but seems 2021 is a pretty strong year for music.

Formerly known as Idle Hands...

I was waiting for this (Mana was a favorite from 2019) and, one listen in, I'm not disappointed  :)

No drastic changes in sound (except maybe the opener being a tad more aggressive and speedier than the usual), so I think it's fair to say anyone who enjoyed Mana should enjoy this one too. Of course, this means the surprise element of the debut is somewhat missing too. Great tunes as usual, though, with the right amount of goofiness (do I hear an eagle sound in Destiny?). There's also a Pat Benatar cover (Hell is for Children) that works great. The final three tracks up the catchiness factor and broaden the sound a bit - including cowbell (Summer Lighting)  ;D All in all, I'm quite happy with this so far.

Nick, going back to this...I loved Mana. Top 5 album of 2019.  I knew this was out, but I just haven't had a chance to follow up. The mp3 is only $7.99 on Amazon, so I bought it last night. Listened to it today at work, and I think it's fantastic. Feels a bit heavier than Mana on first listen, though I was working. Seems those ridiculous wolf howls, by and large, are gone.

Mana was a great album that really hit a nerve with me. I actually listened to ot a few weeks ago and I still love it. There's a little Goth in me somewhere.

There's a few more of the howls but, yeah, not as many... Now they have the sound of an eagle (hawk?), though

I'm loving it. Some tracks are definitely heavier (Heroin, the ending of When Will Gods Work Be Done..), and some are even catchier than the stuff on Mana. Summer Lightning might be on its way for a spot in my top songs of the year...

I just listened to this album and I really, really enjoyed it. If you like this album Hef you should check out Kings Of Convenience - Peace Or Love. It has a very similar vibe.

Hemispheres is one of my all time favorite albums. Had it on 8-track! Exit Stage Left too. :lol

When I first heard I&W, my thought was that this was the music that Rush should be making.

Same on Hemispheres. I’m an Old school Rush fan as you are so I get some crap from the fans who like 2112 better. Love 2112 but Hemispheres is my favorite and Permanent Waves my second fave.
