Eye of Purgatory - The Lighthouse

Death metal. Second album by this band released June 18th last year. Checked it out on a whim after listening to Crimson Dimension. Straightforward death metal with a hint of keys and I really really liked this. Nice to be discovering some death/black records I never heard about from last year. I like the really aggressive fast stuff, not the depressing doom and gloom stuff. Well... maybe once in a while. But stuff like this is more up my alley  Tim, you might like this.

Listening to the first tune now. I like this.

So I like what Chad is doing with his listening themes, so I'm going to do something similar.

It's been a looooong time since I ran through my DT Boots. So my plan is to spend a couple of weeks at a time going through an era.

I started at the beginning...my beginning The Ritz 6/8/92 last night. Since last night and today I've run through..

This is the band I fell in love with.

All amazing members. Kevin Moore was really good. The Osaka boot is a bit Keyboard/Drum heavy, and what Kev is playing in Only A Matter Of Time is incredible.
These early era unisons with KM and JP are so beautiful.
James is a beast. Not perfect, but still a beast.
Even back then, it was clear that JP was on a complete other level.
These early drum solos really have a clear Neil Peart influence.
The above Boston show is MY boot. Oh Holy Night was so incredible to hear and see.

Spock's Beard - Noise Floor

I thought I would check out the non-Neal albums a bit more.

You didn't pick one of their strongest to start with.

Noise Floor is great IMO. You just have to listen to both discs.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

The I&W Era continues!

What's cool about some of the latter '93 shows is that you could hear themes in the improv parts that would show up in Metropolis Pt. 2.

Take The Time will always be one of my favorite DT songs, not only because it's awesome, but the live versions on this tour were freaking EPIC!

Black metal. Checked it out solely based on the artwork. Much to my delight the label's bandcamp is selling a huge flag with this entire painting on it so I bought it. Seriously one of the coolest pieces of art I think I've ever seen.

I know this one! Yes, the art is pretty amazing. The album is not too shabby either  ;D I hear a good dose of thrash mixed in too.

Awesome. Yeah definitely thrash in there. I really dig this album. The flag is massive too. 3 feet tall 6 wide.
