Taylor Swift - Red - The Taylor Swift re-release. It's pretty solid so far.

I think the main disc in its original glory is her best studio album from start to finish (I now think it is a little better than either album from 2020), but the re-release is very nice as well.  I just like the charm and grit and youthfulness of the original more, but I love getting all of those new songs (tracks 21-30).  :)

I generally agree on the original vs. the reissue (although the latter is pretty much as good). But yes, the songs from the vault are great.

It's kind of funny - not that I would consider myself a hardcore fan - but I remember when "We are never ever..." came out as a single at the time I thought "what the heck is this"...and now I, too, consider Red to be her best album. To be honest, I still find the song mildly annoying  :)...but I think the album neatly captures her transition to a bona fide pop star, beyond the pop-country roots..so many good songs in there.

Released today. Really enjoyable album. Reminds me of Lor's In Forgotten Sleep from a couple of years ago, but a tad slower pace. Folky, a small amount of harsh vocals.

I'll check this out!

Lor is tasty stuff...I'll have to check this out too...

So it basically sounds like Goatwhore doing Michael Buble covers for any Pixar movie soundtrack?

Hah! In a good way though.

I didn't hear anything from Red until early last year, so I have no frame of reference in regards to reactions when they originally came out, but as I have said in the main Taylor thread, the variety of Red is a big part of its greatness.  It has a little bit of everything.  In fact, it probably has less country than it does pop songs or rock songs despite being labeled a country album (which is probably only is because she broke into the business as a country star, so anything with any country tinges was going to be labeled country until she went full pop on 1989).   I Almost Do and Begin Again are the only songs on the proper album I can imagine being labeled country songs, and even the country elements in those are more cosmetic than anything.

The Weeknd - Dawn FM

So far so disappointing. Not even close to After Hours in terms of quality.

I really like Dawn FM. It's consistent enough, imo, although there's some filler. But I think it's really fun. I do agree, however, that nothing on it comes close to some of the best After Hours tracks like Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes etc. I'll definitely be spinning it more throughout the year. I love Jim Carrey's narration and the final track that he wrote himself, and the feature with Tyler the Creator. The Lil Wayne song wasn't even that bad imo.

Not bad indeed. I'm in the middle of it and 75 minutes seems way too long for something like this but I'll wait and see. It's definitely quality metal in the vein of OL and Myrath. Never been too crazy about those bands but they all write beefy compositions and this band seems no different.

Yes, it is a long album for sure. I think the physical copy is a double CD.  But it's chocked full of goodness.

EDIT: The digital album is only $6 on Bandcamp.

So, I think this is really well done but I think it overstayed its welcome big time. 75 minutes is a really long album and I just can't help but feel most of the songs could've been a lot shorter which would have made them more interesting to me. It's extremely well put together and sounds very professional but it's a little too much for me. Definitely an album that will need to grow on me and hopefully I'll warm up to it some more cause I love a lot of what's going on here

I really wasn't impressed with Noise Floor at all.  Think I listened to it once, maybe twice.

I just listened to this album. Riverwood definitely sound quite similar to Orphaned Land, who I like quite a bit. I see that They are from Egypt, which explains the similar style to Orphaned Land who are also from the middle east.

Yeah, I like this. thanks, TAC.

The thing is, I can't listen to Orphaned Land. I do not like Middle Eastern influences in my music, and I really don't detect much at all in this.

I guess it is a bit less middle-easterny than Orphaned Land but still manages to sound quite a bit like OL’s more recent output.

No art on hand but I checked out a black metal album by Crimson Dimension last night. Self titled debut from Finland, came out June 4 last year. LOVED it. Just 4 really long songs. Says it's progressive black metal but there's so much melody and compelling songwriting there. Highly recommended for fans of the harshies  :lol
