Have you guys read the Wiki article on SITD?

Quite fascinating.

Yeah.  There's some definite early FM vibes on that song I think.  No doubt Steve Overland would have had something to do with it.

Iron Maiden's b-side "That Girl" is an FM tune.

I was like "uh, that doesn't sound like Fleetwood Mac at ALL", then I read the article.

Indeed.  Maiden did an interesting take but the original is an underrated 80's gem.  Indiscreet is a great album.

If that's the setlist, I'd go see that show in a HEARTBEAT.

What's the singer sound like? Can he do it justice?  (I don't mean does he sound exactly like Ozzy, no one really does, but is it at least credible?  That is, NOT like Dio?  Haha.)

Well, at least that's what I'll have ready for the audition. There's plenty of others they do that I didn't learn. Newer ones.

I think so.  Here's a promo video, see what you think:

I dig that; it's not exact, but it hits the important points and that's what matters.  The excerpt of "Fairies..." was excellent.    He's also fat like Ozzy.  (I kid! I kid!)

I'd go see that.

For what it's worth, yesterday's audition went mostly okay.  I flubbed a few things, but played a lot of great stuff and sang harmonies they weren’t expecting, but I went in a little bit unprepared…

Backstory:  My wife and I live in the house on the front part of the property and her 21 year old son and his dad, Rick live in an apartment (previously a large 4-car garage that was converted into a 1 bedroom apartment) in a completely separate building to the rear of the property.  Rick’s a daily part of our lives and it works for everyone.  When we lost our dog of 10 years last month, Rick mourned as much as we did.  Then a few days later his mother passed away, expectedly.  She’d been in a nursing home, going downhill for weeks.  We knew this was coming.

Saturday night, we came home from the casino and I noticed the screen door to the porch was wide open.  I saw Rick laying on the ground, half on the porch, half in the carport.  Called 911 and despite a prolonged effort, they were unable to revive him.  Less than three weeks from burying his mother, now he’s gone.  On top of all the other bullshit we’ve had to deal with.  I had to get the doc to put me on anti-anxiety meds last week.  Now this.

So I wasn’t going to go to the audition and mother and son INSISTED I go, because Rick was excited for me for this and they thought he would’ve wanted me to.  We didn’t get home from the ER until after 4 AM. In bed by 5-ish, up at 9:30, on the road by 10:30. They were floored that I was there at all, much less on time.

So long story short, it went mostly okay, but not perfect.

So sorry for all you have gone through, and are going through, Coz.  For what comfort it brings, please know that you have a great community of friends here.  Take care of yourself first, and know that if there is anything anyone here can do to help you, a number of us stand ready.  Just say the word and let us know what we can do.

Obviously, the tribute gig is secondary to what else is going on in your life.  But it may end up being a good outlet for you to just be able to cut loose doing something you enjoy, which can oftentimes help with healing.  I know I'm not saying anything you don't already know, but just wanted to put it out there to help show support.  Hang in there, bro.

Thanks everyone. This has been a couple months of WTF. Crossing my fingers this works out. It'll be fun and it will be some $ in my pocket (5 October shows).

That said, if it doesn't work out I won't be at all heartbroken. It will be less stress and my stress level is already unmanageable at this point. We're now having to figure out how we're going to operate an acre of home, with a prodigious garden, lots of landscaping, a pool, a fish pond, etc., without him.  Junior now has to step into a role of responsibility he's never known before.  This is going to be difficult for a long time.

Well I don't know what his responsibility is or will be, but he's way too young to have lost his father. That is truly devastating.

No dice on the Ozzy tribute gig. They had a 22 year old child prodigy come in knowing the entire show, endings and all. No-brainer. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, but not so disappointed that I'll be thinking about it tomorrow. It's probably for the best. Wife just started a new job and a lot of balls in the air here. I'm actually a little relieved. Less things to have on my plate.

I'm debating it. I have a spare ticket as the girl I'm seeing wasn't overly enthusiastic about them when I introduced her  :lol

Truth be told, Covid's got me questioning it. The Webster is hot as hell, at least it was the last time I went, and I'd want to be masked while in there. Do you have a ticket?

I concur with everyone here—I'm in the middle of trying to balance a pretty hectic rehearsal schedule with 'real' life, and it's just getting harder and harder with each passing year.

I will say this...prodigy or not, I suspect the band is going to regret their decision. I've learned the hard way that 'kids' (and I consider a 22 yo a kid) who don't yet have to balance a job, kids, and all that, are way more likely to be flakey in the long run.

Sure, he can play everything note-for-note and probably looks great on stage, but I suspect they will be looking for another guitarist in a year. If the kid is as good as you say, there's no way he's not going to get wanderlust and move on.

You, on the other hand, would have been a way better fit in my opinion. After watching their promo video, I'm surprised they went with someone so young...especially with you bringing the ability to sing to the plate.

My (uninformed) take? I suspect they'll be calling you in 6 months ;)

Agreed; being in a BAND is more than just being flash on stage (not that you're not, Coz; you know what I mean).
