Scenes for me hasn't aged as well as other older albums, but I'd still put it at #5. For me, while it was a big deal at the time, Rudess' first appearance in the band is refreshing, and it's one of, if not the first, full DT album I got into, the production leaves much to be desired, it's a little too obvious JP and MP were new to producing. Most obvious example is on Beyond This Life, before the heavy breakdown of the main riff, JP is playing the riff with loads of effects, and it's moving left and right if you listen on headphones, but it doesn't sync well with the tempo, and the segue into the full band playing the riff is a bit awkward.
I just find myself revisiting the above 4 all these years later, still finding fresh enjoyment out of them. I feel like I've explored SFAM inside and out, and there's nothing left to discover. The music is not as deep, nor is it as 'dense' like the above 4. Some of it is the production. Part of it is that I just don't care for any of the individual songs outside the context of the album, aside from a few songs. In context they're great. Again, I still put it at #5, and in context of the band's history, it's one of their best. Standalone, I just think they did better before and since.
