How much time to you spend each day listening to music?
« on: June 03, 2021, 09:36:31 AM »
I personally would have said "a lot" in college. These days, probably would say "a little bit". There are some days I don't listen to music at all, but I would say I generally listen to it for an hour or so, even if part of that is just on while I'm doing dishes or something like that.

I'm working from home, so I have 8 hours each day to listen to music. And then an additional hour or so when I'm reading - to balance my hobbies I didn't renew Netflix so I don't watch shows all the time, I went back to reading.

That's gonna change next week, I'm returning to work, so I will have to make do with the 90 total minutes it takes me for a round trip, and the evening when I'm not watching shows or movies.

It's going to be the hardest thing to adjust back to, going from 8 hours of music each day to 1.5 is gonna be hard.... I always lived my life that way and I survived, guess I'll just have to get used again.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Define listening.

If I’m at work music is playing over the store speakers but I’m not really “listening” to every song.

At home I “listen” to maybe an hours worth of music I like a day.

On weekdays it's maybe 2 hours a day or so (in the evening) with the occasional listening in the car at work, on weekends that number might be more like 5-6 hours. I still value listening to music but it's a lot harder to find the time as an adult compared to when I was younger and had no responsibilities.

Barely at all. That means in the car to work and the occasional album or something in the weekends. Keep in mind that my job is to teach music though, so ususally after a day of working I’ve more than satisfied my ears and I simply don’t want to listen to stuff anymore. Also I prefer playing music myself than listening.

At least 8-10 hours a day.  I'm on a phone all day for work, and it's nice to have my own soundtrack for the day.

I meddle between a little bit and a lot.

It's why I don't spend time listening to anything much that's on the radio, and tend to not own much of anything from the bands on radio. I do own the albums I actually tend to like by them though, because there are good songs on the album besides the radio songs. Each band likely has a song I will find myself enjoying. I usually play music I have on my Fiio music player, and more recently, spotify on my phone through bluetooth. On Spotify, I will play an album, and have some playlists, or else I'll go to an artists playlist or just let it play after the album or playlist is done.

There's just so much music out there to explore and find, which I tend to do when I do look for something to listen to while on my laptop.

My listening is in the car more than at home, as I don't really have time to listen at home anymore. Which is funny because that happened when I got a ride.

When I'm not on a call for work (which can be anywhere from 1-7 hours a day), music is always on, plus during my workouts in the evening.  Ironically, I probably listen to LESS music on the weekend, as I'm spending more time with family (vs my earbuds).

Barely at all for me, but it depends on the specific day.

I used to listen to music anywhere from 5-8 hours a day. Last 2-3 years, it has been gradually going down and now I listen to just a few songs a day, unless there is a new album I want to check out.

Depends on a number of factors. I can listen to music at the office but have to keep the volume a little low so I don’t do it all that often. More likely to listen later in the day when coworkers start leaving before me. But if I work from home (usually one or two times a week now) I’ll listen to music the whole day. I’ll also frequently walk during lunch so that’s about half an hour there, and at night I usually spend an hour walking so that’s another hour each day. Once everyone in the house goes to bed, I’ll usually spend another hour or two with music on before bed. Then on the weekends I’ll often have something on for large parts of the day. Saturday morning is usually the time I get to really sit down and listen to something.

Do you play every day?  Roughly how much (just curiosity questions, no reason)?

All the time. I put music on as I sleep. And if I'm not watching something, I gotta have music on. I even put a ton of music on my computer at work so when I was using it and sitting at my desk, which wasn't too often anyway, I would have music to listen to.

I even bought a water-proof Altec Lansing Bluetooth speaker to use in the shower so I can listen to music then as well. Basically, there is very little silence in my life and when I can listen to music, I have it playing.

I've had a speaker shower for about 10 years.  That's some good quality listening time.  Sometimes it's only a few minutes since I don't have much to wash, but on shaving days ... different story (TMI??  :lol).

Yes, I play every day for a minimum of 1 hour.  Usually on guitar but I get in at least a couple of hours a week on piano too.  Usually when I get home from work at about 5:30pm I will spend a bit of time settling in and greeting the pets then I'm either in the studio practicing or working on new music and if I'm not doing that I'm rehearsing with the covers band.  We meet once a week for a couple of hours.

Since I started a new job last year, and have been working from home, a shit load!

I find I listen more in the week than at the weekend but basically I always have music playing. In the car, in the shower, cooking, eating, just all the time. I don't watch a great deal of TV and prioritise music.

I find the older I get the more insatiable I get. I have so many Spotify playlists with bands/albums to check out, I keep on top of new releases, make time for my classic faves, spin vinyl as much as I can. It's a lot, and I know my wife gets sick of it, especially when I play heavy music around my 16 month old  :lol

According to my last.fm account, last week I listened to 62 hours of music. That's average now I guess.

Oh yeah, the car is the other place I listen to music. I don’t have a long commute these days (though I have in the past), but I do have to drive long distances for work on occasion which is always a nice opportunity to dig into an album. If it’s like 4-6 hour round trip sometimes I’ll try to listen to all or a chunk of an artist’s catalog.

I answered a lot.

For most of my life, I was absolutely strictly an albums only guy, unless I had a mix CD or something. I guess it was partially that the music I enjoy lends itself to the album experience, but it’s also the habit of putting on a single piece of media (LP, cassette, CD etc) and listening to that from start to finish.

But about 2 or 3 years ago, I finally acquired my first old school iPod as a gift. Now I’m hooked on having many albums on shuffle as it gives me a more varied experience.

I’ve graduated to the new Sony Walkman player. I have a 64G micro SD card that holds about 2000 songs in FLAC format. I listen on earbuds at work and usually get through about 100 a day or so depending on how much interaction I have with other (which can vary). I also listen in the car both to and from work. But finding time to listen at home is hard...and when I do have the time, I usually opt for some concert video (or other music DVD) that I can never seem to get around to.

I'm autistic, so I have very regimented days. Every morning I wake up at 4:00, go into the back room. I have a list of all the bands I like with their albums listed in chronological order, and then I start working my day down the list. I listen to however many albums it takes for me to finish my morning routine so I'm ready for my day. That can occasionally be up to 4 hours each morning because the Bible is dense XD

I listen to music every day. Rarely go a day without.
On good days I'll listen to at least 8-10 hours of music a day.
Some days, it's maybe one album or 1-2 hours of music.

I try to at least listen to 4-5 hours of music every day whenever I can.
There's too much good music to enjoy and experience out there, and 1-2 hours a day doesn't cut it.
I play and write a lot of music, so I'm not counting that.

It varies.  Satellite radio is on all day at work in the background, but I don't notice it if I am busy, which is usually 90% of the day.  I block it out if I am busy with work.

Always have tunes on in the car when I am going anywhere.

Not as much as I'd like. Since the UFO thread I have taken more time late at night to get some listening in. For the collection I have, I really should be listening a lot more than I do. Any car ride is always wall-to-wall listening.

Other than the sentence I lined out, that might as well be me.  I drove to New York this week (4 1/2 hours each way) and I listened to a TON of music (actually all the new Yes Definitive Editions by Wilson:  The Yes Album, Fragile, CTTE, TFTO, and Relayer.  With all the different versions on the three CD set, I think I listened to TFTO four times all the way through!)
