So I had a good time at the Evanescence/Halestorm concert in Inglewood, yesterday.  The journey to get there has been interesting.  Left my house at around 5:45.  Ran into the expected traffic of merging onto the 405 North.  I really don't know what happened.  No accidents or anything that would warrant a jam and after waiting it through 15 minutes, it just magically clears up.  To park at Youtube Theater would cost $40.00.  After what happened parking near SoFi Stadium for Foo Fighters for $45.00, I needed to venture a different option.  I thought about parking at a lot near a train station for $3.00 and taken a bus to the venue and take an Uber back to the train station, but it's pretty dicey if I stay outside too long at night in Inglewood.

The next option was to park at a local casino that's a 15 min. walk to the venue.  The security guard at the parking lot joked about it with me.  They said, "What are you doing here?  This is a casino, the theater is over there." and I told them that I spoken with a casino representative earlier that day they informed me that I could park here for $25.00 and they understood what I was trying to do and they were like, "Yeah, I get you.  Parking there costs $50.00, you can park here for $25.00."  They only allowed cash though so I had to make a withdrawal at the ATM in the casino and go back to the lot to pay them.  Costs me $31.50.  $25.00 to pay the guard.  $4.00 fee to withdraw from the casino ATM, and $2.50 because the withdrawal was from an ATM that is not connected with my bank.  Still cheaper than paying at Youtube Theater though.

As for the venue itself, it's actually pretty all right.  I feel like it's pretty spacious and once you get in, it's still a bit of a walk to get to my seats in the 100 section.  Got inside and the first band, Plush, was already starting their set.  They were pretty good for the short amount of time they had.  They were an all-female band and I think they were the right band to open for this bill.  Had good energy and they played a cover of Heart's Barracuda.

Halestorm was up and the best thing I can say about them was that they were as great as they were when I saw them in 2017 (which was the first show that I personally pay for a ticket and drove myself to).  Of course, the show in 2017 was better and only because they played for 30 min. extra since it was their own standalone show.  Still had great energy.  I actually liked their new song (which was also their opening song of the set), Back from the Dead, which is a bigger plus since I never liked their lead singles that's building towards a new album.  They still saved a song slot for Arejay Hale to do his drum solo which was really entertaining and he brought out these huge as f drumsticks which I always liked as a visual.  Another big appeal to this bill is that Amy Lee made a guest appearance and provided vocals for one of Halestorm's songs, Break-In.  Naturally, it got a solid reaction and Amy Lee and Lzzy's vocals mesh well enough.  Reminds me when the last time I saw Evanescence with Lindsey Stirling where she made an appearance to sing one of Lindsey Stirling's songs, Shatter Me (whose original vocals on the studio version was originally sung by Lzzy).  Anywho, great set from Halestorm and they really extended the outro to I Miss The Misery so hard that it makes sense that it's the closing song of the set and that wasn't the last time we would see Lzzy Hale on that day, more on that on the Evanescence set.

Evanescence was really better here than when I saw them in 2018 in Irvine.  The show in Irvine was so boring compared to yesterday.  In Irvine, they had an orchestra and the band was sitting down, and I couldn't hear them and this was my description of the set: This was basically Amy Lee signing Evanescence songs with an orchestra and you can't hear the rest of the band and the crowd was so not into it.  Heck, most people left after Bring me to Life was played and it was like the 7th-8th song of the set and more people left after My Immortal and it wasn't in either set closers.  Just not that enjoyable.

Yesterday, was though.  Band was obviously much more pronounced here.  A lot of more energy in the room.  I think the band sounded a bit more heavier than I thought they would be.  A lot more moving around.  Good visuals that fits more of the haunting/sorrowful/gothic vibes the songs had at times.  Amy Lee was more interactive with the crowd.  They had a nice small montage video break that showed some footage of how far the band has come in the ups and downs of their careers.  A fair amount of the set was focused on their latest album, The Bitter Truth, which I thought was an ok enough album to warrant that focus.  The crowd still liked the usual staples though (Going Under, Call Me When You're Sober, and of course, Bring me to Life although I feel like it's a bit awkward when played live since they don't want to work in the male vocal parts properly live).  Lzzy Hale come out and they did a cover of Linkin Park's Heavy and they amped it up to be a more rocking song than the original somber poppier tone.  It worked all right, plus it gives a nod to a band that was part of that group of 00s bands that Evanescence was in (Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Disturbed, System of a Down, etc.).  Sadly, I didn't stay for the encore which had My Immortal since I needed to walk back to the casino parking lot and I and my car was able to get out in one piece thankfully.

Good night overall.  Spent around $50.00 for concerts and parking total, which is a bit of a win.  Heck, there was GA pit tickets on Stubhub the hour before the show began that was going for like $30.00.  I was content on my seat which was pretty good and that I didn't need to stand after walking a fair amount to get to the venue and back.  Was still a pretty attended building.  Don't know if I want to come back to this venue for Slash and Myles Kennedy, but we'll see.

Next show will most likely be Trans-Siberian Orchestra if tickets fall low enough to my liking (under $50.00 would be nice, since that's what it would have been $55.00 on Groupon which is no longer available).  If not, the show afterwards will be Daughtry/Sevendust/Tremonti and then Metallica in San Francisco.

what I wrote on FB about the shows I saw last weekend

Quote
I attended 2 The Monkees concerts the last 2 nights in Milwaukee and Minneapolis, all while still dealing with a pinched nerve (4 weeks-in).
The shows were good..the trip down to Milwaukee went okay.
But when arriving in Milwaukee and other than the concert, everytthing IN MILWAULKEE was more or less a NIGHTMARE.
Not getting a room at the hotel I had booked a reservation 2 months ago, and eating dinner at 11PM, and then faced with the prospect of having to drive in the dark back to St.Paul wasn't really how the plans were supposed to go.
Thankfully finding a hotel in the small neighboring town of Waukesha at Midnight kind of saved the end of Saturday night for Joyce and I.
I would not recommend staying at a hotel in a downtown area on a Saturday Night in the Fall per weddings often happen and hotels neglegently OVERBOOK. Why? Money?
Of course they claim it's a staffing shortage.
I'm pretty sure Joyce and I weren't the only people this happened to that went to the Monkees concert in Milwaukee on Saturday night.
I guess staying at a hotel 2 blocks from the venue sounds and often is too good to be true, lol.

^^ Ooo, thanks for reminding me.  I just had to call the hotel that I'm staying in San Francisco and they informed me that the reservation is still there.

Sad news all around.  The Daughtry/Sevendust/Tremonti tour has been postponed in light of the passing of Chris Daughtry's daughter.  Very understandable though.  Tickets are still valid which is good news for me.  Just won't be going to the Novo in LA in December.

Seeing a band tomorrow night that were some of the biggest session musicians, producers and songwriters behind some great solo acts over the years.

Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Leland Sklar, and Russ Kunkel.  These guys have played or produced bands like Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, James Taylor, Keith Richards,  Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, and Don Henley.

I'll be seeing Swallow The Sun this Sunday. I enjoyed their set when they toured with Dark Tranquility I ended up buying Songs of The North.

Hopefully these songs will end up on the set.

It's been 1.5 weeks since my last concert and I never wrote a review.... but this was a good one so I don't want to forget about it!

Two weekends ago I saw Metallica, Cage the Elephant, and Greta Van Fleet at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.  This concert was AWESOME.  First let me say this newish stadium is amazing.  It looks so futuristic and has all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a modern stadium (unlike cough metlife stadium cough).  I paid a nice chunk of change for this ticket, but it included food and drinks.  So you basically got into a "club" level type of lounge where there were two buffets of steak, sausages, hot dogs, mac and cheese, wings, and all sorts of deserts.  Also soft drinks, water, and a bar that included beer and wine.  Anything else cost money.  I made sure I got full use of this, I had 4 plates of food and 10 heinekens  :lol  The bartender lady was soo nice too, she made sure I had 4 beers on standby when the bar closed so I wouldn't be thirsty for Metallica's set. Also you could leave the club and walk around the stadium with your food and drinks.  I loved the freedom of that especially because I wanted to check out the stadium and walk around since it was so large and beautiful.

Anyway, back to the music, Greta Van Fleet opened.  They played a 40 minute set and ended up performing half of their newest album and nothing from their first album which was surprising, but I LOVE their latest so this was a pleasant surprise for me.  I thought they sounded fantastic and while it was failry empty overall for them, you could tell there was still a good turn out for the opening band who went on sharply at 6pm. This may have ended up being one of my favorite sets I've seen all year, definitely the best opening set.

Next up were Cage the Elephant.  I must say, I don't think they belong here.  I wasn't familiar with them before the show so checked out some songs which were alright, but not really my music.  However, seeing them live, it was quite obvious they were not heavy enough to gain the interest of the crowd.  Also, the singer was WILD, but like an odd wild.  One song he brought up a fan from backstage and he was doing these odd dances and then they hugged and kissed and it just felt very awkward to me.  (and I know others felt similar because my youtube video has tons of comments from people expressing the same thing).  The singer also had a whistle he kept blowing that was really annoying and had no flow with the music.  I don't get what he was trying to do.  The band was actually pretty decent though, I overall thought the performance was actually pretty damn entertaining, just not for me.

And then came Metallica and the stadium filled up.  I was mostly dissapointed by the setlist being almost all songs I've seen before and nothing really interesting as they've done on some of the festival shows recently.  But they did perform No Leaf Clover which I really had been wanting to see.  I will say, their sound was not that great.  Especially compared to Greta Van Fleet which is surprising as the opener almost never sounds as good as the headliner.  I also think, for a headlining band who's performed so much, they are VERY sloppy live and not even just Lars who has stuck out like a sore thumb the previous times I saw them.  Something just seemed a bit off with them.  James' banter between songs was incredibly awkward too IMO.  I definitely enjoyed them and they put on a fun show, but I kind of think Greta Van Fleet was the better band that night.

Metallica, Cage the Elephant, & Greta Van Fleet ATLive Mercedes-Benz Stadium Atlanta GA 11/6/2021

The whole experience likely makes this my favorite concert of the year from the travel and eating the local food, to riding the MARTA train, to experiencing a new stadium, the included food and drink at the stadium, and of course the live performances!

Next concert: November 20th - Opeth & Mastodon @ Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City NY

Just got home from seeing District 97 at a small club in Chicago. It was at Reggie's but in their tiny little comedy club upstairs, which is really just a bar. Probably 40 or so people there but they played like there was 10,000. They dropped several new songs on us and they all sounded fantastic. Leslie was on fire. Her voice was just amazing.

Everyone that was supposed to go with me bailed so I went to my first ever show alone. It was odd as I am extremely shy and introverted. I found a nice table and sat there no more than 10 feet from the band and just watched. I needed that. Been a rough and hectic week and to be able to watch a tight band play some heavy prog was a treat.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

Good to hear you still went solo and had fun.  Once I got over that hump of going to a concert solo it became significantly easier to do it again.

Anyway, not every day you wake up and find Gwar is tweeting at you  :lol

Apparently, you haven't been seen since.  We found you!

I, too, don't have any that shares the same music tastes as me so it's fine with me that I get to go concerts myself.  The downside though is that people relists stuff on Stubhub for a way lower price if they list it as a pair of tickets rather than single tickets.  Last concert where I didn't go by myself was Trans-Siberian Orchestra with the family back in 2019.

Speaking of which, I'm still aiming to go to their afternoon show in Ontario on 12/04.  Ticketmaster does have an offer where they are listing some seats at $44.00 in the nosebleeds and there was a floor seat in the back going for $60.00.  There is a part of me that thinks I can get better for less the day of.  Best if I can wait.

As weird as it feels to sat this, I'm going to a gig tomorrow. It'll be my first gig in about 2 years!

Me and a few buddies are going to see The Offspring supported by The Hives. I was a big fan of The Offspring back in the day but I'm probably even more pumped about seeing The Hives. I've only ever seen both bands once, and that was at my first ever festival back in 2004. Crazy to think that 17 years later I'm seeing them again.

Should be fun.

Josh Rouse
The Monkees x2
Mayer Hawthorne

went on to YouTube and talked about the 1st 3 the other day

Mayer was last Friday. Not a bad show, short, Josh Hartnett was there. The crowd didn't shut up tho.

Yeah, I ended up getting the ticket to Trans-Siberian Orchestra at $44.00 anyway.  My rationale is, well, it's in the same section that I got the Groupon ticket in the past shows for $55.00, so getting it for $44.00 is pretty good at this point.  Seeing them in three straight times they've been to Ontario, California. Always a great visual pleasure to see them.

So, two concerts to close out 2021 in a year where we are all very thankful that we have concerts running in some form (not smoothly, though, but it's a start, and I just want to see that start).  Sucks that I don't get to see Daughtry at the end of the year for reasonable reasons, but I'm sure they'll reschedule at some point.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra (afternoon show) - Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA - December 4th, 2021
Metallica's 40th anniversary shows - Chase Center in San Francisco, CA - December 17th and 19th, 2021.

I wrote a bit more in the Mastopdon thread, but their concert with Opeth last weekend was pretty awesome! Opeth went on first for the rotating coheadline tour which worked out well for my tastes.  I really think Mikael Akerfeldt is an amazing singer.  Guy is just fantastic and does a nice job with stage banter between songs.  I really think Mastodon killed it though, it seems (not just from reading their thread on DTF but from also talking to people at the show) they are really elevating themselves to a top metal band these days.  Good for them.  Their show had lasers and cool backing visuals, some of which were quite trippy to go along with some of the more proggier elements of the music.  Nice big mosh pits broke out at times.  The venue has a huge floor and I sat in the stands with a nice view albeit there was a bar for the ledge blocking my view.  The highlight, for me, was when they live debuted one of the new songs which happens to be a top song on the new album for me.  They replaced another new song and I always love when you are the first to see something so that felt special.

Mastodon - Gobblers of Dregs LIVE (debut) @ Hammerstein Ballroom New York City NY 11/20/2021

After a bunch of metal shows, time to switch things up.  I just got back from Florida and about to head out to the local ballroom here for a sold out ska show with Streetlight Manifesto.  A local ska band from the area who are quite popular in the genre and always sell out shows when they return to this venue.  Things should feel awfully familiar tonight and I'm looking forward to that!  :yarr (as I am watching to my older videos from the same band in the same venue)

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

And of course I would end up starting a new job last week which throws a wrench into my travel plans, but a good problem to have all things considered  :tup

I'm a bit nervous for that one.  I bought my pass on Stubhub a few months back and I've been in contact with the original ticket holder and they informed me that they haven't had the option to transfer the tickets yet.  I've visited a Metallica boards and they informed me that, while this is a not a sure thing for this show, that tickets for their prior shows are not transferable until the day before.  Hopefully, I can get the transfer and then everything is fine.  Otherwise, I may have to spend hours talking to Stubhub before the show and that is not how I want to start my vacation.

I’m aiming for 2022 for more shows. My first show was a month ago. Wasn’t music, I saw Trevor Noah. Next weekend I see Fortune Feimster. My wife loves standup and one was for Mother’s Day and the other was for her birthday.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Just bought tix for me and my wife to see TSO in Newark, NJ next Wednesday.  It's been 11 years since we've seen them, when we took our daughter to see them at the same venue.  I was gonna buy the same seats as then for nostalgic purposes (Sec 230) but decided to upgrade this time around.

And my fears has been alleviated now.  The Metallica ticket I bought on Stubhub is now in my possession.  It's a front row seat in the nosebleeds, but their center stage setup guarantees a good view no matter where you are in the arena, right?

Yeah, sould be good but you may be just facing a different musician as the show goes on.  The time I saw them with a center stage, they kept rotating where on stage they were so one song you might have James facing you, the next it would be Kirk or something.  Sounds like you are set, that'll be a lot of fun.  The S&M2 concert was like that if you want to watch and see how they handle the center stage.

As far as staging, I think they abandoned the traditional arena stage set-up on the Load tour in favor of the "in-the-round" stage and never went back.  Much better for everyone.  More people get a good view.  And, they can sell tix in the whole arena without having to black out behind the stage.

Tomorrow is tentatively scheduled my final concert for 2021, Clutch! The venue is sold out and I'd be lying if I wasn't concerned about this concert happening.  The venue is still promoting it, so it's on schedule to happen.  Restrictions don't seem to be the reason this may not happen, but a band/crew member testing positive is the concern.  My gf and I are VERY much wanting to go to this since there hasn't been much going on the last couple months with things to do (besides the holidays).  :crosses fingers:

The Clutch show did happen.  I think a lot of people held back from going since it was advertised as a sell out but certainly didn't feel like it.  It seemed more people than I've yet to see (including myself) were wearing masks at this show.  Clearly a bit more concerned about covid, including from the band who rush on/off the stage with masks and not interacting with the crowd at all.

Having said that, they are such a good guitar driven American rock band.  Hard to say anything bad about their performance, they sounded great and the singer has such good stage presence.  I'm not the biggest fan to know all their music, but it seemed since this was their 30th anniversary tour that they pulled out a bunch of older and more rare tracks.  They also performed a brand new unreleased song (which I thought was really good).  Really solid show to end the year.

As of now, next concert is a month away at the end of January so I think this closes out the year of concerts for everyone on the forum!  Significantly better than 2020 but I hope 2022 has things closer to being back to a normal concert year.  We will see...

I had a fun year of concerts (well, only like 4 months worth of fun concerts).  Here's my Top Five for the year.  Quite a diverse list, in my view.

1. Metallica - Chase Center, San Francisco, CA.  December 17th.
2. Brad Paisley - FivePoint Amphitheater, Irvine, CA. October 9th.
3. Michael Buble - Honda Center, Anaheim, CA. September 25th.
4. Rise Against - FivePoint Amphitheater, Irvine, CA.  August 21st.
5. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Toyota Arena, Ontario, CA. December 4th.
