Limiting myself to one per band, in no particular order:

Haken - The Mountain
Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Caligula's Horse - In Contact
Pain of Salvation - Be

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

Depends what counts as prog metal I guess. Giving it a wider definition and not repeating artists (or thinking too deeply about it):

1. Dream Theater - Awake
2. Enchant - Break
3. King's X - Faith, Hope, Love
4. Queensryche - Empire
5. OSI - Office of Strategic Influence

I've picked mine using these criteria too.

1. Images and Words - Dream Theater
2. Altered State - Tesseract
3. Ghost Reveries - Opeth
4. The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Symphony X
5. Uncivilized - Bad Salad

Probably would have had a Haken album in there, but I usually struggle to pick my favourite  :lol

I'll limit 1 per band

Dream Theater - Images and Words (my all time favorite album)
Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls
Haken - Visions
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Pagans Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy

some more that are borderline prog metal and if they were considered full on prog metal would likely take place over something above:

Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death
Epica - The Holographic Principle
Devin Townsend - Addicted!

So many great albums, it's hard to narrow it down to just 5, but I'll try.

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Redemption - The Fullness of Time
Fates Warning - Theories of Flight
Dream Theater - Train of Thought

Nice choice. For whatever reason, it seems to get slagged by fans, but it's my favorite reunion-era Maiden album. It rocks in a way that brings me back to 70's classic rock like Deep Purple or Hawkwind or something.

Ha, Rush and Tool the odd ones out.  Our lists almost interchangeable apart from them.  I'd opt for Power Windows though if I went Rush.  ;D

5: Dream Theater-Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Shadow Gallery - Room V
Redemption - This Mortal Coil
Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura (this is the only Neal album I consider heavy enough to be in this category, but it's also one of my favorites)
Ayreon - Into The Electric Castle

Dream Theater - Images and Words
Fates Warning - Parallels
Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime
Redemption - Snowfall on Judgement Day
Haken - Affinity

The first 3 have been among my favorite albums since forever. Images and Words has to be the progressive metal album in my book. As for Parallels, it's probably not their most proggy one, being somewhat more commercial than those that came both before and after. But man, has it got the tunes.

Probably something like

Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Dir En Grey - Dum Spiro Spero
Opeth - Deliverance
Pain of Salvation - BE
Tool - Lateralus

There's a few others that I probably might have put higher than a few of these but I don't consider them 'prog metal' as such
