Boston - ST
Rush - Moving Pictures
AC/DC - Back in Black

I'm on board with these. I had to think about Destroyer though. I personally cannot stand God Of Thunder, and Great Expectations is iffy. But the rest is pretty great.
Calling Great Expectations "iffy" is quite a stretch in my opinion.  And, I've never understood the band's fascination with Do You Love Me.  Personally, I can't stand the song.  I don't know how, out of all of their tunes, that one has remained in the setlist as long as it has.  Just curious, TAC, what is your opinion of the Paul version of God Of Thunder?

And, as far as Metallica goes, I'd be fine with putting Lightning, Puppets or Justice on the list.  The Black Album wouldn't touch this list because of Don't Tread On Me.  IMO, it's the worst song they'd written up to that point.

The Paul version of God Of Thunder is...strange. I'm not sure exactly what it's trying to do.
The original is so iconic. But I'm not a fan of plodding Gene music.

I like Do You Love Me. I don't have a problem with it.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

The Disco Paul version is really weird.  I could see how you'd call the original "plodding Gene music".  However, it totally played up the demon persona to a T.

I'd love to hear them bring Sure Know Something into the setlist.  Those harmonies right before the breakdown are phenomenal.  It would be amazing.  They wouldn't even to use Paul for them.  The other 3 could more than pull it off.  Then again, I'm one of those assholes Paul doesn't like, who screams for them to put some deeper cuts into the live show.

I love Sure Know Something and Dynasty is one of my three favorite KISS albums. The other two being Hotter Than Hell (my fave) and Revenge.

And I'm all for deep cuts.

The last time I saw KISS was 2001. I had seem them a number of times from 1996-2001, and the last time, I walked out and told my wife that I literally felt ripped off. I had just seen the same show AGAIN. I've never had an interest is ever seeing them again.

My first rock concert was KISS at Madison Square Garden when I was 12 in 1985.  I hadn't seen them since the "Farewell Tour" back in 2000.  My wife and I took our 13-year-old daughter to the End Of The Road show at Madison Square Garden.  It was my daughter's first rock concert.  I went into it fully knowing that Paul might not be singing live and that the setlist was gonna be virtually the same it had been for the past 20 years.  And, seeing my daughter having an absolute blast, singing along with the songs the same way I did 34 years prior made it absolutely fantastic for me.  I enjoyed the show itself, too.  But, getting to share that with her was amazing.

While I agree that almost everything mentioned has nothing but great songs, just thinking about this topic impresses on me more and more that Hemispheres may be the most perfect rock album ever recorded.

On every single other album that has been brought up, there is always one or two songs in the 8-9.5 range. Still great, but not quite the top shelf of 90% of the rest of the album.

Hemispheres is 4 non-stop perfect 10s. Some days I honestly couldn’t choose a favorite if you put a gun to my head...although I suppose that since I consider the title track to be the 2nd greatest piece of music in recorded history, I’d be forced to put side 2 in a 3-way tie for second place. But even admitting that hurts.

I think Yes's Close to the Edge is more perfect than Hemispheres.

From Permanent Waves, Entre Nous and Different Strings are GREAT songs?

Just because they aren’t bolded on RYM doesn’t mean they aren’t great songs.

I really didn't know they are not bolded on RYM.
I find those two songs to be good, but not great. I like them, but don't love them.
Natural Science, Freewill, The Spirit of Radio and Jacob's Ladder are 4 great tracks though.

I agree with so many that have been mentioned here (Close To The Edge, 8vm, Underfall Yard fuck yeah), but I'd like to add some that I think haven't been mentioned yet:

Renaissance - Scheherazade And Other Stories
Mark Knopfler - Sailing To Philadelphia
Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden
Rammstein - Mutter

As much as I love The Beatles, I can't get on board with Rubber Soul. I love the album, and it has some of my favourite Beatles songs. But it unfortunately has Run For Your Life, which lyrically has to be one of the worst Beatles songs. It's actually uncomfortable to listen to and in light of what's in the news here in the UK at the moment, it was never a good message to be sending out.

GoT is better at the faster tempo of Alive 2 but then the drum solo ruins it.

I’m probably overthinking this as I’m struggling to come up with a “perfect” album.
Every great album posted so far, that love, there’s a voice in my head saying “yeah but there’s...”

Moving Pictures has Vital Signs
Heaven and Hell has , well 2-3 songs that are ropey.Slippery When Wet has Social Disease.

I went through the top 10 of my top 50 and every album had at least one of those.

Even some of my all time favourite albums have songs that I rarely listen to.

Trip through Your Wires from The Joshua Tree is one example.

However I do think that Nimrod by Green Day is 18 unskippable songs. They're all fantastic.

Dookie is also great but I rarely want to listen to Chump or one of the back end songs like Emenius Sleepus or FOD.

REM's Automatic For The People is amazing but I never go " I really fancy listening to New Orleans Instrumental !! "

Troublegum by Therapy? is my #1 all time favourite album - and it may be because it is 27 years old - but I think it's perfect but obviously

there are still some songs I never actively listen to on it in isolation ( no pun intended ) like...Isolation.. Or Unrequited.

I nominate NIMROD by Green Day as I think it's a perfect album and easily their best. :)

I'd like to mention some that haven't been yet. (although CTTE is correct to be mentioned IMHO and I would have had it not been already)

(no particular order, criteria are good songwriting and clean execution)

any Sade album
DT: ADTOE and DT12
Yes: Drama and Fragile (CTTE as well, but everyone mentioned it already. Still great though)
Genesis: Foxtrot, Selling England and Duke
Kraftwerk: Autobahn, Radioaktivität, Die Mensch-Maschine and Tour De France
Kate Bush: The Dreaming and Hounds Of Love
Billy Cobham: Spectrum
any Toto album (apart from Toto XIV, thanks Carlock)
Steely Dan: Gaucho and Aja
Return To Forever: Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy and Romantic Warrior
Herbert Grönemeyer: Sprünge, Bleibt Alles Anders and Schiffsverkehr
Phil Collins: Face Value, Hello I Must Be Going and But Seriously
Tears For Fears: The Seeds Of Love
Sting: The Dream Of The Blue Turtles and Ten Summoner's Tales

(these are some that came to mind right away)

Can't agree with DT12 as Surrender to Reason and Along For The Ride do *nothing* for me. They're just....there.

And the awful snare sound completely ruins Along For The Ride. It's nowhere near as good as The Answer Lies Within for example

imo :)

What about

Mastodon - Crack The Skye or The Hunter

Metallica - Master of Puppets or Hardwired to Self Destruct ? I know most people don't care for Murder One or ManUnKind - but if the album was 90 minutes of Spit Out The Bone - it would get

boring. I love the Reload style weirdness on Hardwired To Self Destruct. I was longing for a song like Dream No More again.

Phew. Difficult one. Even my two favourite albums of all time have at least one track not at the level of the others (Under A Glass Moon and Operation Mindcrime‘S title track). I’ll have to think about it.

I’ll never understand why people find fault with UAGM.

I was tempted to say this as well :lol

Me too!

Metallica - St Anger.

Am I doing it right?

 :rollin :rollin

I could easily fire off a hundred or so albums.  Many of which have been listed.  Some I don't think I saw:

Bat out of Hell
Milliontown
Slippery When Wet
The Great Radio Controversy
The Fullness of Time
Hymns for the Broken
Second Nature

And some of my more personal / obscure / recent choices
Prospekt / The Illuminated Sky
Daydream XI / Circus of the Tattered and Torn
Teramaze / Her Halo
Anthriel / The Pathway
Sunburst / Fragments of Creation
Mystery / Lies and Butterflies
Ostura / The Room
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I mean if you think Every song on St Anger is great then cool ! :)

Nobody else can disagree with your tastes !

I genuinely think it's a lot better than its reputation. And Concrete And Gold by Foo Fighters is way worse.

And I absolutely agree with you on Steely Dan's masterful Aja and Gaucho. Aja is usually named as their best album but in my opinion, Gaucho is even greater. Glad you mentioned it. Then again, most of the Dan's album's could be mentioned here ;) Only exception I would make from this is Pretzel Logic, in my opinion "only" a good album.

I would also like to add Donald Fagen's The Nightfly and Morph The Cat. Brilliant albums from the first to the last second.

Yes.  Yes they are (although I'll concede that Different Strings might be borderline).

Entre Nous and Different Strings are, but Jacob’s Ladder is a little dodgy. ;-)

If, by "dodgy," you mean a top 20 Rush track that is vastly better than every song on Power Windows, then I agree.

Marathon vs. Entre Nous?
Marathon vs. Different Strings?

In both cases I vastly prefer Marathon.
