Really surprised (disappointed) to see OaMoT losing to Vacant. Really people?  :omg:  Also surprised that SSons is losing to BtS.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Fortunately, one of these has changed since your post.  I suspect there are folks who vote against WDADU songs as a matter of court, solely because of Charlie, and without regard to the quality of the songs.

I love WDADU. But I’ve always held that OAMOT was the weakest link from that album.

And BTS surface is extremely personal to me, and is now easily my all time favorite DT ballad. I still love SS, but there’s an emotional component to BTS that just barely gave it the edge for me.

And here I thought we were good friends Ben!   :omg:

But you're voting for Vacant. Vacant! There's some other songs I can understand most people voting for over OaMoT, but Vacant ain't one of them.

In fairness, I'd probably vote for Vacant over TOWHTSTS, which I consider to be the weakest song on WDADU.

See, and I’ve always maintained that TOWHTSTS is the strongest from that album. Better than TKH by far. If it had been Set the Sun, I would’ve voted for that

Light Fuse and Get Away is the best song on WDADU for my money. Only a Matter of Time is a close second, with The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun close behind that.

Dunno if I would say best as I find it hard to say what's truly best. BUT, LFaGA is definitely my favorite, followed by TOWHtStS. I'd probably rank OaMoT just ahead of TKH for third fave on WDaDU, altho that could flip-flop depending on the day.

Just for reference, from the WDADU album tournament back in November 2019:

Quarterfinals
The Killing Hand defeated Light Fuse and Get Away 24-6
Only a Matter of Time defeated A Fortune in Lies 16-14
Afterlife defeated Status Seeker 24-6
Ytse Jam defeated The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun 25-5

Semifinals
The Killing Hand defeated Only a Matter of Time 17-12
Ytse Jam defeated Afterlife 15-14

Album Championship Match
The Killing Hand defeated Ytse Jam 23-9

1. The Killing Hand
2. Ytse Jam
3. Afterlife (rankings 3 & 4 based on margins of defeat in semifinals)
4. Only a Matter of Time
5. A Fortune in Lies (rankings 5-8 based on margins of defeat in quarterfinals)
6T. Status Seeker
6T. Light Fuse and Get Away
8. The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun

Obviously not a perfect measure of anything, but there you go.
