They're ok because they're comical.

Bad per se, but completely fitting their music and therefore more than ok for Motorhead.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

The tone of his vocals blended way better as he aged. His grit got gritteir and the raspy got raspier and it Enhances that style a lot, and fits really well.

They're ok because they're comical.

This is mostly where I come down.  I don't actually own any Motorhead albums (I used to have Orgasmatron on vinyl but didn't replace it when I dumped my vinyl back in the 90s), but I do like some of their songs.  They sit right on the border of thrashy music and comedy.

It's hard for me to personally describe if I enjoy Lemmy's vocals.  I wouldn't say I like it enough that I would be invested enough to listen to Motorhead's catalogue, but it's hard to imagine anyone else singing those songs the way he does.  I can't imagine anyone else singing Triple H's, the wrestler, The Game in the way Lemmy dictated.  I mean you look at the times at Wrestlemania 17 and 21 where Motorhead played The Game live and see how Lemmy slurs the words and misses the lyrics, but you didn't care about it, because they and Lemmy gave a huge aura that was well suited for the song and the performance.

He's not Bono but his voice suited Motorhead.

I think he sounds amazing on this song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WowMCSybiBg

Not a fan of the band or this dude's singing.  That said, I recognize the iconic nature of the dude and his band no doubt  influenced legions of kids to get into metal music so love him or hate him he left behind a substantial legacy and will probably be remembered for a very long time as a result.  Dude left his mark on the world, for sure.  None of it ever appealed to me, but I admire the accomplishments.

I'm waiting for the inevitable comparison to the "growl" thread; I'll be the first hypocrite.  I like not love Lemmy's vocals, but I don't consider them "growls" or "harsh" any more than I consider Brian Johnson's to be "growls" or "harsh".   There's a vibe, a spirit to Lemmy's vocals that while don't make them good, do make them endearing.

I send "One Track Mind" from "Another Perfect Day" all the time in roulettes.  They were good live (I saw them three times).

Yeah, I don't consider Lemmy's vocals even close to growls. tbqh.   He's just got a raspy voice.  Hey you down a fifth of Remy and two packs of Winston's every day for 50-something years and see what your voice sounds like  :lol   Is it any wonder he always sounded like he just gargled with broken glass and sand?

Also he died at age 70. That's an achievement in itself.

People like Lemmy are supposed to die at age 27.

I'm a teetotal health freak and at 42 I still feel constantly tired and have aches.

I can't imagine how Lemmy - with his terrible health and diet at age 70 must have felt every day.

I have no strong opinions about Lemmy or his vocals other than I don’t find that type of music very interesting.

Sounds like his vocal cords have been killed by death.

"Don't mind" would be my upper limit.

One of my favorite Motorhead songs. That groove is incredible. Love Lemmy's voice and wouldn't want any other type of singer singing Motorhead songs. He sounds great on "ballads" too like Love Me Forever or One More Fucking Time.

Lemmy once stated that he always thought that it was bollocks that Motörhead were labeled heavy metal. But I get it why people label them that, because they pretty much came along with the NWOBHM wave, or just before it. When asked about the bands genre, he just always replied that Motörhead are rock 'n' roll.

On topic, Lemmy's vocals are perfect for the band.

All I know is that I saw Motorhead three times:  twice opening for Black Sabbath and once opening for Dio and Maiden.   So, yeah, Lemmy will tell you "we're rock and roll", but marketing is what marketing is.  :)
