Anyway, if you think about it, it's such a mental trip to ponder about ancestry and where we all come from. I mean, if we're here, it's because everything went good, but if you go far back enough in time, it's insane to think how many things had to go "right" for each and everyone of us to be here.
I mean, for all we know, at least someone in this thread is alive only because someone in 1547 avoided a carriage of a startled horse just at the last possible second, and that guy went on to have a child, then a grandchild, then a grand grand grand grand..... descendant, and that's one of us in this thread. Heck, maybe that "phew, I avoided a carriage that would have trampled me to death, it's my lucky day" guy is an ancient ancestor of Hitler, and he would have never been born if that carriage had struck on time.
The possibilites, both positive and negative, are endless. For all the scientists we have, maybe the one to discover the cure for cancer 50 years before it will eventually happen has never been born. We got Freddie Mercury, but maybe because of a drunk brawl in a pub in 1678 that resulted in a killing, we never had someone who would have created the greatest band in the history of music, something that would make the Beatles irrelevant.
Really, think how many wars, how many emigrations, how many diseases for which there was no cure our ancestors survived in order for all of us to be here today. It's crazy if you think about it.
