Looks like the album's being released in early 2025, according to the email I just received. And he implied he's touring with his old band which presumably means at least Sir Nicholas of Beggs and Adam Holzman. Wonder who's on drums? Guessing it'll be Craig Blundell since they developed a great relationship. Guitar could be one of a few different people but wonder if it's Alex Hutchings?

There was this SW interview where he stated that he wants to "keep the band British".

While I admire his skillset, I dislike Blundell's choice of drums in terms of tone as I think that it lacks body, sounding a bit thin for SW's music. He comes from a marching band background and that kind of tuning is a must there. Guess old habits are hard to shake off.

The clip sounded interesting and I'm looking forward to hearing it, I didn't really care for the harmony codex.

I spun HC this weekend. There are a couple really enjoyable songs and then some that I don't connect with at all. I will always give his new material a try though.

A signed copy of the new album on CD, titled The Overview, is now up for pre-order. No vinyls, no expansive box set, no cassette...just a single CD. Odd.

TO BE RELEASED IN EARLY 2025 - TBC

Steven Wilson has announced details of a tour in May/June 2025.

The Overview Tour will visit the UK and eleven European countries following the release of Wilson's eighth solo album - The Overview - due for release early in 2025. (track titles and release date TBC).

These will be Steven Wilson's first full band solo shows since 2018 when he followed the release of his 2017 album To The Bone with a 145 tour that took in 30 countries.

Steven Wilson: "I'm thrilled to be able to announce a Steven Wilson tour for 2025, my first for 7 years. The Overview Tour will be an audio-visual experience based around a forthcoming new release of the same name: a space themed album that features just two very long pieces. I'll also be playing music from The Harmony Codex for the first time as well as songs from all of my previous records. I'm incredibly happy to be performing again with my inspirational solo band, and we have a lot of lost time to make up.

I was wondering about the format he's going for with this. If the songs are 25 minutes long then slapping those on vinyl seems less than optimal.

It actually seems VERY optimal for vinyl given that it's just two side-length pieces. It's perfect for a single vinyl album though knowing him, it'll be a gatefold with a second vinyl of bonus tracks, just to make it a bit more expensive worth pressing.

Yes, but isn't it a bit on the long side as far as sonic quality is concerned? Wouldn't a duration of 20-22 minutes max. be preferable?

Typically, but plenty of single vinyl albums have surpassed even 50 minutes, particularly the run of Genesis albums from Foxtrot to Duke, all of which were over 50 minutes.

It might also be that SW is rounding up and the two tracks of his next album are in the 22-24 minute range. But if he sees your comment, he might end up splitting his two tracks in half and make everyone buy a double vinyl for just 50 minutes of music. ;)

Or maybe we could all finally accept that it doesn't matter how or if this ends up on vinyl because with Steven Wilson in particular, the DVD/Blu-Ray audio versions will be superior in every way.

I fully expect some fans who have not "seen the light" yet with The Harmony Codex to have the light bulb go on for them once they see some of it played live next year.  It took a while for me to really wrap my arms around it, but now I think it's pretty terrific.  It's even better under the influence.  :hat :hat
