Question for audiophiles 5.1 BluRays on 3.1 systems?
« on: January 25, 2021, 11:50:49 AM »
I currently have a 3.1 system (left, right, center speakers + subwoofer) and I'm quite happy with it given my living room situation.

However, a couple of releases I'm looking forward to, such as Transatlantic, are coming with BluRay 5.1 ones. My question is, since I don't really have fully surround sound, is there any reason to listen to these BluRays in my 3.1 setup, since I don't really ever intend to take the step to 5.1? Would it be any different than just listening to the normal CD in stereo?

I'm no expert, but I think it depends on how your receiver would fold down the rear channels.  I would think it would be worth it just for the subwoofer and center channel separation, but that's just me.
