JM talking about bass gear with Scott's Bass Lessons
« on: January 23, 2021, 04:47:25 PM »
John Myung was just featured on Bass Tales with Scott from Scott's Bass Lessons talking about his signature bass and other gear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vA6WA6BWhxc

Btw, this series also featured guys like Billy Sheehan and David Ellefson, among others :metal
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

A cover of Pearl Jam's Jeremy?

It would've been cool if he talked about some of the other basses he had and what made him change from one to the other.

This was great actually, to see him so talkative. Just his quick comments on Rush and Iron Maiden were insightful. We need more John Myung.

Actually no, that little riff is actually from a song called "Nothing To Say" by his old side project band Platypus, its from the album "When Pus Comes To Shove" (1998).

I just noticed that I have never listened to Platypus.

I'd like to mention that I really like the sound of his bass in this clip. (even and especially by itself)
"All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
A physical absurdity, a tremendous mental game
Helping me understand exactly who I am"

Myung + Sherinian + Rod Morgenstein + Ty Tabor

Fun fact, this song is featured in DS' solo in OIALT... worth the listen

True! About John Myung, I strongly recommend to listen to Rock Balls/Destination Unknown, great bass lines!
But I love all When Pus Comes to Shove album! I

I still haven't listened to a full Platypus or Jelly Jam album yet and I definitely need to fix that. What album should I check first?

Platypus - When Pus Come To Shove

Jelly Jam - Shall We Descend

Line up is exactly the same, but after Ice Cicles DS left the project.
