Should the "best song of the round" bonus be doubled for the final round?

Nah, x2 points for the songs but only +1 point for the bonus
Fuck yeah

Buddyhunter1's ELECTRONIC ROULETTE (v5) - FINAL RESULTS!!!

2nd Roulette: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=43933.0

4th Roulette: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=53991

---INTRO---

Hey everyone, it’s time for another roulette, but this one’s going to be a bit special. I’ve been looking across the bands and artists I’ve been listening to a lot these days, and while there is still a good amount of typical DTF-fare prog and metal, I feel like for those genres I’m starting to get diminishing returns when it comes to stuff I get sent in roulettes. Don’t get me wrong, I got some damn good metal and prog my last roulette, but for this roulette I’m specifically looking for something different: electronic music.

I’ve always liked electronic music, but as my extremely short banlist will demonstrate further down the page, I’m not familiar with enough of it. I’d struggle to explain the differences between most electronic genres, and there’s likely some incredibly obvious artists that I’ve never checked out before. The purpose of this roulette will be to round up a few people to hopefully throw me into the deep end. Only electronic music will be allowed; if there’s not a prominent electronic component to a song, it will be rejected. I’m well aware that this is not an electronic music forum and there probably will be a very limited number of people who’d actually agree to participate in this thing, but hopefully there’s enough people who join for us to have a smaller-than-normal but still enjoyable roulette. In fact, part of my motivation for going with this theme was to avoid the 15+ participants most roulettes get these days!

---ROUNDS---

There will be 8 rounds, with no themes.

Round 1: RESULTS
Round 2: RESULTS
Round 3: RESULTS
Round 4: RESULTS
Round 5: RESULTS
Round 6: RESULTS
Round 7: RESULTS
Round 8: RESULTS

---PARTICIPANTS / FINAL STANDINGS---

1: The Walrus - 129
2: Sacul - 127.5
3: Ariich - 126
4: Elite - 122
4: Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 122
6: Cyril - 121.5
7: Puppies_On_Acid - 121
8: Evermind - 118.5
9: Romdrums - 117

---RULES---

- You can only send songs with prominent electronic elements. No, using lots of keyboards in an otherwise normal rock / metal band doesn’t make you electronic; there needs to be a greater prominence / importance of electronic instruments than real ones. The line here is a bit blurry, but my cutoff point would be the Nine Inch Nails album With Teeth; anything less electronic than that wouldn’t be electronic enough.
- For each round, you must submit TWO songs from the same artist.
- If there’s multiple tracks that form a cohesive piece (i.e. a song split into two parts), they can be submitted together as a single song. There’s no scientific rules here, so I might ask you to re-send if I listen to them and feel like they aren’t cohesive enough.
- The length of both songs combined must be below 20 minutes.
- Spotify links are preferred. If that doesn’t work, send me a youtube link or an mp3.
- Each song you send will be scored independently on a scale from 1 to 10.
     - 3 or below: Abysmal. You’d have to really fuck up to get a score this bad.
     - 4: Bad. I don’t like it at all.
     - 5: Meh. I either have no strong opinion on it, or I have extremely mixed feelings about it.
     - 6: Okay. I kinda like it, but I probably won’t be itching to return to it.
     - 7: Good. Missing something for it to be great, but still quite enjoyable.
     - 8: Great. Few flaws, and enough special qualities for it to really resonate with me.
     - 9-10: Amazing. You knocked it out of the park.
- The best song of each round will get an additional point as a bonus.
- All point rewards for the final round will be doubled.
- Submitted artists will be banned for the remainder of the roulette if I enjoy them or find them interesting enough.

---TASTES---

When it comes to electronic music, the stuff I’ve historically enjoyed the most is either uncompromisingly energetic or deliciously atmospheric. That’s not to say I won’t enjoy stuff in between, but keep that in mind.

A lot of my favorite electronic artists utilize rock or metal elements while still having their feet firmly planted in electronic genres. Stuff like Anamanaguchi, Pendulum, Celldweller, or Nine Inch Nails will probably do well.

Pop and hip-hop are allowed, provided the production is electronic enough. These are a bit riskier, but I’m not adverse to either. I apparently enjoy some good synthpop, if recent Gorillaz and Ulver albums are any indication. Hip-hop really needs some good, interesting production for me (Gorillaz, some Death Grips) but if it’s got that I’ll probably enjoy it.

I like industrial music when it’s done well; it needs more than just abrasiveness for me.

I’m not really looking for video game music in this roulette, but music that incorporates elements of video game music (chiptune, synthwave that isn’t overtly 80’s-worship) is encouraged. You can still send actual video game music if you want, just check with me before sending me to make sure I haven’t heard it.

Don’t send harsh noise, drone, or pure ambient music. Just don’t.

---BANNED ARTISTS---

There’s some artists in here who only have a few songs electronic enough to be accepted (if they weren’t banned), but I included them anyway.

If you must send me video game music, check with me before sending to make sure I haven’t heard it.

Totes in.

At first based on the initial description of "electronic music" and having as many as 8 rounds, I thought that might a little much for DTF (in that I think any single-genre roulette that isn't rock or metal would naturally struggle with so many rounds). But most of the examples you've included are more in the electro-rock vein so I think that should make it pretty broad.

Your banlist actually has very, very little that I'd really classify as electronic music, at least in terms of how I categorise my own music collection. So I'll put a list of options together and try to keep it fairly broad so I can send you a range of stuff.

Yeah like how the hell The Alchemy Index is there? I suspect something from Lunatic Soul would qualify :P

I'm in because even if I run out of music I'll be able to send some kpop

Yusss.

Yeah you raise a good point regarding electronic vs. electro-rock. I'm trying to balance not requiring purely electronic stuff while also not allowing artists like, idk, Thy Catafalque or Frost* (their second album, at least) which utilize a good amount of electronic elements but really aren't electronic-focused.

Yeah like how the hell The Alchemy Index is there? I suspect something from Lunatic Soul would qualify :P

Like 4/6 songs from Water would qualify but yeah the rest is very much non-electronic. I'm not familiar enough with Lunatic Soul to say anything there. I've only listened to the first few songs off that Eye Of The Soundscape Riverside album but if it's like that my hunch would be "probably".

I'm absolutely good with that! (and also with the fact there's no eliminations)

Lunatic Soul has different stuff, the new album is very folky and wouldn't qualify at all but I'd say something from Walking on a Flashlight Beam would absolutely fit.

For sure, but then with a band like Frost, it would be easy to get two very electronic focused tracks from their most recent album and EP,  so I guess it depends what you're most interested in. If you want artist/albums that are electronically focused, rather than specific songs on otherwise non-electronic albums, then I'll prioritise those.

Yeah, you got fucked over hard last roulette and I'm sorry. :lol
I wasn't planning on doing eliminations my last roulette either but then like 14 people joined and I knew I couldn't handle that for the whole thing. :P

I'm hoping I don't regret the two-songs-per-submission thing, but since prog is banned I think the likelihood of me getting 10+ minute tracks is much slimmer this time.

Doing that would technically be allowed. I'd say you should probably prioritize entire artists/albums that are electronically focused first, but if you want to cherry-pick a few songs you can still do that if you really think I'd like them. Hell, I used an OSI song for one of my "stuff I like" examples, so do whatever you want.

Hah, thanks. I'll think about it, but listening to an electronic roulette sounds quite awful.

I'll listen to the first round.

Anyone in contact with The Walrus on facebook or something? I sent him a PM but he hasn't logged in since before Christmas apparently

I also might reach out to a few people who never participate in my roulettes but I know for a fact listen to electronic music... you know who you are

I haven't heard from Mike in a couple weeks. I don't do social media like Bookface or whatever. He also hasn't posted over at the "other" forum in a while. :dunno:

Also I sent....
aka Puppies_On_Acid
I peed next to Ian Mosley and Mark Kelly
Derek Sherinian probably stands 10 feet away from the urinal, shoots from downtown, and announces loudly that he's making history.

The one that was started after the Mike Portnoy forum got shut down.

I'm not aware of that one. I had stopped going on MP's forum when he left the band.

He got into it with Bosk in the Corona thread in the General forum and essentially said he was leaving. Regarding the other forum, I believe he completely deleted his profile over there.

Unless things cool down, he may not be back.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history
