I noticed these are the most popular bands among Rush fans: Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Van Halen and probably I could add Black Sabbath, The Who and Iron Maiden to that group.

Any surprises?

I’m a big Rush fan and I only casually like a few of the bands you mentioned.

You are you, one person.

I am many, and I am all.

I AM my daddy... wait, wut?

Moe, Larry and Curly. They knew how to rock.

The Three Stooges are not a rock band. I meant the band The Stooges, if you even know who they are.
They rock for sure.

how in the world did The Three Stooges get brought up in a thread about Rush without one mention of both using the Three Blind Mice theme as their opening music?

Brian May played 'Three Blind Mice' during his 'Brighton Rock' solo in the mid 70s.

Perhaps I'll start a thread about how to explain the overlap between Rush, Van Halen, and Queen fans ....especially since Eddie appeared on Brian's solo album.

Nevermind they had the old 3 Stooges heads on the screen then the Guys heads showed up in black and white as a photoshop.  Alex's name underneath his had changed from "Alex" to "Brad Pitt." :lol

For me too. But they're vastly different to be compared.

I would agree they are vastly different, but not so different as to be unable to be compared or for it to be surprising that people would like both bands. You might say it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Very different fruits, but still fruits. Much more similar than, say, comparing an apple and a hamburger. In fact, I’d say it’s more like comparing a pineapple and an orange. Very different fruits in appearance, but similar in flavor and texture of the fruit itself. One can imagine liking both pineapple and orange even though at first blush both fruits look and seem very different.

In one facebook group of Van Halen fans there was a question: "Name 3 bands you couldn't live without" and 46 out of 320 people named Rush in the comments. Rush got more mentions than i.e. Iron Maiden (only 18) and Black Sabbath (33). Isn't it surprising?
The most mentioned band after VH is Zeppelin (75). Also KISS got 46 votes and AC/DC 45.

Surprising to whom?

You'd think that two pages of this tread would have made you adjust your surprise-o-meter on this subject.

Nah, he is the DTF equivalent of Josh Baskins.

"I don't get it."

Someone explains it quite clearly and reasonably.

"I still don't get it."

Seems to happen in every thread. :lol :lol

Who?

I even googled and got someone who is a senior consultant with an executive search firm (presumably not whom you were referencing).

they're both similar, also they were/are popular at the right time and they entertain people.

Here's the thing, though.  They're not both similar.  Only one of them is similar.  The other is different.  That depends on whom you ask, though.  Some people say one of them is different, but the other is similar.  So it depends.  I agree that they were/are popular at the right time and they entertain people.

WTF

The only surprising thing is you tallying up and reporting those numbers as if they relevant to anything or anyone other than the members of that group who participated in that poll.

Van Halen entertain people, Rush don't, because they are too serious.
Van Halen just can't be serious since David Lee Roth is one of the biggest clowns in rock history.
