Rush Survivor 2020 - The Album Covers - Round 1
« on: September 30, 2020, 01:42:50 PM »
Welcome to the first ever Rush Album Covers/Artwork survivor! Rush have plenty of iconic album covers, and I debated including the live albums or not, but I feel like there are some good ones in the live sets, though I decided not to include any compilations or box sets, since most of that artwork relies on recycled elements from other album covers.

For the first few rounds, I will do multi-vote elimination, so PLEASE VOTE FOR FIVE here, and the five albums with the most votes will go out first, barring any odd ties.

Rush
Fly By Night
Caress Of Steel
2112
All The World's A Stage
A Farewell To Kings
Hemispheres
Permanent Waves
Moving Pictures

Wow... all over the place so far - only Feedback getting multiple votes!  Some people missed the memo of VOTE FOR FIVE!

That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Well...these are all just meh:

R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour
Snakes & Arrows Live
Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland
Clockwork Angels Tour
R40 Live

R30 is probably the most bland.

But, when I initially thought I was getting only one vote, I was going to vote for A Show of Hands because I think it's just dumb.

But now that I see we get five votes, I'll go with the following:

R30
A Show of Hands
Roll the Bones
Snakes and Arrows Live
Hold Your Fire

DAFUQ?!  Fly by Night is one of my favorite album covers ever, and I have seriously considered getting a tattoo of that owl.

It's funny how the way I rank the cover art does not necessary line up with how I rank the music. For instance, I rate AtWaS and CP highly, but their respective covers do little for me. OTOH, I rank ESL and Feedback way low musically, but like the cover art for both. Go figure.

My choices this round:
Rush
All the World's a Stage
Hold Your Fire*
Counterparts*
R30

* would not have been voted for if the internal artwork had been used for the cover instead
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Just a thought, but maybe for future rounds you could put images of the covers in the OP, so people can get a side-by-side comparison.
