I'm dead last.  Not only I'm dead last, I'm right below Stadler.  I'm sorry, Stadler, but I can't have that.  If I can't knock this out well in round 4, I might as well throw something very random on round 5.  I even decided, for this round, to not have one song be from 2000-onwards.

HAHAHA.   I take no offense.  In roulette terms, I'm the fat kid in the 100-yard-dash in school.  If you finish behind me, you either tripped on your shoe-laces or you need to do some soul-searching!   :) :) :)

I hope that last bit was another tongue-in-cheek comment, I wouldn't want you to drop out of the roulette!

Well, both Evermind and Elite did also send me Pain of Salvation in Round 3... Could there be more to this than it may seem? :lol

Nah, probably not.

Well, I think I'll get started on listening to the submissions I have so far either today or tomorrow. Then once I've got all the submissions, I'll get to listening to the remainder and the first impressions will then be revealed.

Without meaning any offense to Revenge319, I honestly refuse to take any blame for taking four days to send my song in a roulette where the last round lasted more than a month.

Revenge: don't worry, I'll definitely send tomorrow. Or I'll drop out of this roulette. :P

Seventh Wonder

...

The Great Escape - 9/10

Roulette score: 9.0

Absolutely thrilled with this outcome. This piece really is a lot to digest, but it's one that has stood the test of time for me. And I do think it's as representative of the band's overall sound as an epic can be.

And... I'm in first place? That's another nice surprise. Going to try not to mess it up too badly on these last two rounds.

Just sent.

For the sake of clarification, there's something I would like to bring up regarding this roulette.
Way back when I first opened the roulette and made all the rules and stuff, there's something I mentioned that I'd like to go into a little more detail on, and how it will affect scoring.

"...if I hear a song amazing enough, the scale can go a bit higher than 10 (well, kind of... you'll see what I mean if I'm sent a song of that quality in this roulette)."

I normally would have waited until it happened to explain, but I realized that after recently coming up with the way I want to implement that into scoring a roulette submission, it'd be better to talk about it now than have the potential situation of people wondering why someone just suddenly scored a large amount of points. And yeah, it's a bit funny that I'm talking about this when the highest score a song has received so far is a 9.5/10.

So, what's higher than 10? Well... in terms of the number itself, 10. I think it's a bit silly to rate a song higher than 10 when it's a scale from 1 to 10. But it's a 10 with a shiny red filter to it, to signify that this specific song is something truly special to me; to signify that maybe there really are things out there greater than perfection (if one artistic medium can pull that off, it's definitely music). Now as you can probably imagine, these specific ratings are very rare. In my opinion, Dream Theater has about 26 songs that are a 10/10. Only eight of those are a 10/10. And Dream Theater is and always will be my most favorite artist ever. Haken is #2 on that favorite artists list, and they don't have any special 10/10s (Visions comes very close, though). The only other songs I can think of that I'd give the elusive 10/10 at the moment are The Whirlwind, When the Water Breaks, and maybe Anesthetize. Okay, that's just the background stuff; what you guys are probably more interested in is how this applies to the roulette.

First off, to clarify, I am not saying this now because I know I'm going to be giving a song that elusive rating in either of these two rounds; I'd love to be able to hear another song I thought was that perfect of a song, but as of the time I'm writing this, I have not heard a song in Round 4 yet that I'd consider giving that special rating to.
So, what happens if a song you submit gets a special 10/10? My idea is, the entire score of the submission gets doubled. So if, theoretically, someone gets an 8.8 for their overall score for the round and gets a 10/10, that will be doubled to 17.6. And this effect stacks, too. Let's say someone gets a 9.2 and they happened to send two special 10/10 songs. That gets doubled to 18.4, then doubled again to 36.8. And if one were to somehow manage to submit four godlike pieces of music in a single round... You'd get a score of 640. Or in other words, you're basically guaranteed to win the roulette.Stacking the effect seemed cool, but it seems a little too unbalanced, so just ignore the crossed-out part. Plus, it's highly unlikely that this would ever happen in the first place.

Apologies for taking over three rounds to realize this... But at the very least, better to bring it up late than never, right? I'll also add this to the rules post at the beginning of the thread for easier reference.

i think that any person who would manage to do that would automatically win the roulette and it feels like a really unbalanced way of scoring but i also doubt that a song can become that important to you within the short timespan of roulette listening to the point where i doubt it'll actually matter anyways

Yeah, that's more or less what I was thinking, too. I ultimately decided to go with it, though, because in the event that someone does send a song of such importance, I think they should deserve greater results. Maybe I'll get rid of the "multiple 10s = doubles stack" part to make it more balanced.

I could probably use one of those red 10s right now to get back in the hunt.  I don't see how the scaling can go wrong right away.  For all we know, someone could have a red 10 song, but can have like 3 5.0 songs in the submission as well which brings down the average to like 6.25, which doubles to a 12.5 score for the round.  Can help vault someone back to winning this thing.
