Revenge319's relatively normal roulette: Love list complete! (FINAL RESULTS)

(1/326) > >>

Revenge319:
Greetings to anyone reading this! Although I feel a bit nervous about hosting this roulette (I've never hosted anything like this on any forum or social media before), I've decided to give this a shot anyway. So, a few words before I get into the rules and such: The main reason I want to do this is because I need the motivation to listen to more new music, and in doing this I'll actually have the obligation to do so. Now, I LOVE music, but despite that... There's not a wide variety of artists I listen to. There's only six artists I know well and listen to often, plus one other thing that I'm not sure I'd want to admit to the forum... So, anyway, as you would probably guess, I am in need of trying out many new artists to expand my figuratively-speaking horizons!

[FORMAT]
I would much prefer to keep things simple, so simple this will be.

* 5 rounds.
* Send between 2 to 4 songs from one artist.
* I'll score songs on a scale of 1 to 10, using quarter increments (for example: 7, 7.25, 7.5, 7.75). The scale can go a little lower than 1 (which hopefully and probably won't happen), and if I hear a song amazing enough, the scale can go a bit higher than 10... and by that I mean I give it a shiny red filter. A 10 will double your score for the entire round.

[RULES]
So, I should probably get to the rules now.

* Firstly, I see no reason to limit the number of participants; the more people to send me music, the better (at least I would think so).
* Also regarding participants, there will be no eliminations, mainly because I prefer it that way but also because I'll feel bad if I eliminate anybody (though there will of course be a winner at the end).
* Since there will be multiple songs per user to score, I will find the average of all songs' scores to give points to each user.
* As one may expect, any artist on the ban lists below are banned and shouldn't be sent (except for the third list, but we'll get to that).
* As far as submitting music goes, a YouTube link is preferred but I'm also okay with music files. Don't do streaming services like Spotify because I don't use any streaming services.
* Also regarding submissions, I don't mind long songs, but try not to send me a song that's very, very long (like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence or The Whirlwind or something like that). That being said, don't make them all long songs. One 20-minute song per round is fine if you want to send it, but don't send me multiple songs of a long length in a single round.

[TASTES]
This one's a bit tricky to define, because I don't care much about genres for the most part; if I like a song, I like it. That being said, I do tend to gravitate towards rock and metal (whether or not they're of the progressive variety) a lot, so I do encourage sending prog rock/metal (and non-prog rock/metal). I can enjoy most other genres, though, although I would highly discourage pop and rap/hip-hop music, as I tend to find the sound of those genres annoying with very little exception.
Additionally, I would highly suggest to avoid submitting songs if the lyrics are explicitly about sex or lyrics relating to satanism or some other occult thing. Also don't send anything with a lot of swearing. I almost always find these types of lyrics incredibly obnoxious, and it's rare that I'm able to enjoy the song enough to completely ignore that aspect of it.

[BAN LISTS]
There are three ban lists because it's easier to organize that way. In order of lists, the following artists are banned because 1) I know them well and enjoy them, 2) I either outright do not like them or just don't care about them, and 3) albums I've listened to from artists I don't know. So for Ban List #3, sending me music from the artists mentioned is perfectly okay as long as the songs aren't from albums I've heard before. Also, if an artist is not on my banned list, it's highly unlikely that I've ever heard them before (and if you happen to send me something I've heard before, I'll probably listen to it and rate it anyway).

Well, that concludes all of the setup, I think! It does feel strange to be a person on this forum who only really listens to a few bands, so hopefully by the end of this I will enjoy many more! Feel free to ask me any questions in case I forgot to mention something.

You edit your OP (the first post in the thread) and then you change the text in the "Subject" field.

I'm in btw, that must be the shortest banned list in roulette history. Can't miss this.

Yeah, I was expecting people to point that out. I'd be surprised to see a shorter one; there's only 14 artists I've banned!

Buddyhunter1:
I am in this to see how many entry-level prog metal bands I can get away with sending before anyone else does.

Btw, your rules look good for the most part, the only change I'd recommend is introducing a maximum length for each submission. Just going off of your current rules I could technically send you over a disc's length of music each round by sending four 20 minute songs, and you don't want that. :lol

Fair point! I will have to update this.
